3 Locomotives Work Hard To Pull A Heavy Mixed Freight Up Ludlow Hill. New Caboose Finally Arrived At Viewing Platform Next To Norfolk Southern Main Line. Listen to the locomotives as they climb out of the Ohio River valley on a long 7+ mile grade. These trains are in Ludlow, Kentucky at the new public viewing platform next to Ludlow Kentucky Police Department. This is a great place to watch trains and they transmit signals and defect detectors on 160.950. After a few delays the caboose is finally here. It arrived a few months ago and this is my first time to film it after it arrived. I have pictures of it in a previous video that show it before it was painted and it was stored west of Ludlow at the time. This train took over 10 minutes to get up the hill and I doubled the speed to prevent boredom. Gambit1960 and I were here for several hours and this was the only train that passed. The high rail truck in this video went by right after the train and we figured that wasn't a good sign. This was filmed on December 30, 2021.
Thanks for watching! If you have time, please watch another video of mine to help keep my channel going. Every view helps support my channel. Viewing time helps pay for gas, motels, rental cars etc. I have a list of places that I plan on filming so watch another video of mine if you have the time.

Please thumbs up and watch another JawTooth video to help my channel.

Check out my steam train playlist for some really cool videos including the Big Boy! I also have other railroad videos of all types including short lines, street runners and cabooses in action. Please watch another video to help support my channel:

Gotta get out daily doggo and kittuh fix.
Dang that is an impressive bridge though. Had an old Rock Island caboose a couple of towns over that got purchased from the CNW and placed as a gate guardian for a little strip mall called Oakton Junction. Got pictures of it in 85 shortly after it got set in place still in RI speed letter livery but about 10 years later they tore down the strip mall and the caboose sat at the corner of the lot getting tagged and slowly deteriorating for the next 25 years. Couple of years ago the town was approached by Seneca Illinois with an offer to take the caboose off their hands to make the site more attractive to developers rather than to scrap the caboose on site and so after an absence of almost 40 years and 35 years sitting as an attraction for a long dead strip mall the caboose now sits at least close to home rails with several other pieces of RI rolling stock at the old Seneca depot now museum and undergoing restoration to her former glory.

Nice, and classy, that the NS #4123 engineer gave you railfans a toot. Always great to see the pets. Chessie looks like she knows she's 2nd fiddle to Norfy.

I remember that like it was yesterday. Lol! We froze our rear ends off that day, no doubt about it!

Beautiful Looking Caboose. They ought to use the Caboose for some type of Fundraising to Maintain it. 👍

That one was 3 engines pulling 146 cars. Perhaps the coolest one on there was the car with all of the trailer frames with tires stacked one on top of the other.

What I like is your videos showing the more of surroundings lately, which I appreciate very much. Now I know what a caboose is, it took ages to learn that. Thank you JawTooth for my DDoT.

I guess train catching can be like fishing. Good that you caught the one instead of none. That was a nice catch. Thanks Brian and stay warm.

Nice of the town to construct a viewing platform and to have a newly repainted Southern caboose on site. Now if only someone could cut down all the saplings and tall grass to enhance a more panoramic view. lol!

So glad they gave the caboose a fresh coat of paint when they set it there. That is a great train spotting tower somebody built at that park. I wished there were more of these. Always great to see Norfie and the pups.

The Southern caboose looks great! I am glad to see that the local people in charge of it did such a great job of painting it and decorating it for the Christmas season. That was a long haul for those three Norfolk Southern engines on this train. They definitely could have used a DPU or two to help the train get up the grade from the Ohio River Valley. Thankyou for documenting this train for rus on 31 December 2021.

Great video, I remember watching Southern as they came through my home town back in the 70's and 80's...

At least your hands aren't frozen. Last time you were here it was real hot and the parking lot was full. That Hartford & Slocumb boxcar is a bit of a waif as those reporting marks have dwindled over the years. It almost looks like a car that was pulled of storage by Jason on the E&LS a few months ago. Nice restoration on the caboose. Something about those steps like wearing shoes several sizes too big.
