Pre-Sprouting peas increases the chances of establishing pea plants early in the season when soil is still cold. This is my favorite way to direct seed peas in the garden in March.

Thanks so much for your support! Cheers & Thanks, Gary!

I’m an older woman who has had a pretty good green thumb;well with what I grew(and I messed up somehow wasn’t what I was trying to do) so I got frustrated and I have a standup gardening table actually I have another one that I was going to replant some things and all that was successful was the basil ❤

This is so perfectly timely for me. I had just soaked some peas for planting. Something came up & I didn't have time to get them out and now I'm expecting 2 days & 2 nights of rain. I should be able to pre-sprout as you described. 💖

Hi Gary, 2023 was a bad year in my erea South of Netherlands, however beans did well, but tomatoes did have a hard time due to much rain
and the weather is at a rollercoaster. Everything 2024 is going sprouting out early, but just one night of frost it will kill most. So keeping indoors
or greenhouse till after April is a good thing to do for me. I have and will try to grow the Californian Redtree, just for fun.

Love growing peas. So easy and fast growers.

This is what I do for peas and beans - it's a game changer! Gives the squirrels less time to pilfer them too.

I alwasy direct sow peas in zone 8a and had horrible germination, maybe 3 tiny plants out of 50. I didt the same this year and 4 weak seadlings finally coming up after weeks. I dug up a few and noticed they were swollen but unsprouted. I have another run soaking today after seeing this and will give that a try.

Are those closet shelves that you are using for trellises?

I start them inside in pvc gutter sections cut 4ft long and transplant the whole thing as a strip, works great

After these show through the ground what is the lowest temperature they will tolerate? Central Ohio still stands a chance of really cool temps in April.
