I had a Malamute and I don't agree with the breed is not a good dog to have. My Malamute was the best dog I've ever had. Great companion and very well behaved and good with other dogs and kids. My Bandit loved kids. I took him for walks and kids thought I was walking a wolf...lolol.. he was large, about 80 lbs at his matured adult size and he did shed a lot. I always said that he would shed a dog a day 365 days a year. Would love to get another one. I miss my Bandit talking back or if I wasn't paying attention to him when he wanted me to he would start talking until I gave him some loving and playing time. He didn't play with toys although we bought him some he wanted to play tag or show off his zoomie skills up and down stairs around the kitchen and living room on beds and couches..hilarious to see..lolol.. never got into trouble with chewing on things or anything else for that matter. If he came out of the front door he never ran off and he came back inside when he was called. Miss him greatly. He died on Thanksgiving Day morning last year. I have a dog that I adopted that's a Australian Blue Heeler and he is extremely hyper and barks a lot and he won't stop jumping up on people who visit. Been training him to not bark as much by a vibrating collar that we only use when he is excessively barking. Sometimes we don't even have to put the collar on, when he sees us getting ready to put it on he'll stop so he's getting better at not barking as much. I still want another Malamute but it has to get along with my Blue Heeler so that might take time.

I have owned Malamutes for nearly 30 years. Overall, good job. I take issue with only one point. You said they are not good with small kids. That is not true. They are great with small children. The Inuit people who lived with the breed for millennia sometimes left the female Malamutes alone with their small children when they hunted for food. It's in their DNA to be gentle with children.

My aunt and uncle have raised Alaskan Malamutes since I was about 5 years old (so 45+ years) they are awesome dogs and if I could I'd get one for a pet!

My boy is 8 months old and is such a lover. I taught him to give nose kisses, and routinely comes over and pecks my nose with his. He's just as happy watching TV with me on the couch as being at the dog park. He just lays his head against me. He's just too cuddly.

I took 2 times a Malamute out of a shelter. Both were 8y. old, and from the first I was the 4th owner, from the 2nd I was the 5th owner. Ones a Malamute, always a Malamute. ❤❤

My sister has one now four years old. She's a dog trainer working with the disabled and vets. Her dog actually is great with dogs especially paraplegic dogs. He assist her in training and is highly protective of her. Lots of work to maintain but twice a day long walks, professional grooming, keeps him well maintained, especially on a superb diet. Her dog isn't their to protect her as she is the leader. Fun, loving sure just not suitable for everyone.

Mine bite me one time. She was in a fight with neighbors dog that came over and just had a hysterectomy. I pulled her away and she went after the collie and accidentally got me. Boy did that hurt. She was ok so was I. She was a big 100 lb female.

I got to keep an Alaskan malamute because my moms mama it's tax be birth to pups so she gave them to a shelter I named the pup I got coco and its only been 3 and a half months and he's way bigger than the other pups and he's super wooly and soft and the cutest critter you've ever seen, he's also super funny and playful but he has worms so we give him medicine (the reason is that he keeps eating dirt and bugs like moths) but other than that he's fine and we are always playing with him

They are not yard dogs, they need to be out, you keep saying it but not making the connection, they get bored, a yard doesn’t provide enough space for them to satisfy their curiosity, the easiest way to train them is to bond with them, get them to trust you and they will do whatever to please you. Howling and barking can be a sign of distress, I know people thinks it is cute but it depends why they are doing it, a content and happy dog is really quiet. When neutered they can stop shedding, they will still loose hair but nothing a hoover can’t cope with, neither do they need a lot of bathing, the fur has natural oils that keep it soft and clean, most days a rub with a towel will clean them on the dirtiest days a quick run on the underside with a shower head and the dirt will drop off. A lot of what is said here are more husky traits than malamute.

I got mine fairly recently (he's 2 years old) and now I'm questioning if he's broken and needs to get sent back to the factory xD. the ONLY time he was destructive was the one time we left him alone for about an hour or two (the front door frame) and he's only dug one hole. although he's now getting more vocal, he mainly used to just whine when we went out without him whether it's just in the yard or elsewhere lol

Wow your video about alaskan malamutes is more about siberian huskies. Malamutes rarely bark, while they do talk but this is a quiet breed. Bundles of energy?!? They aren't Huskies, Malamutes need a lot of exercise but they like to chill with their family. Malamutes do not protect merchandise but if anyone or thing attacks the family they will fight to the death to defend the family. How do I know this? I have an Alaskan Malamute that is 14.5 years old. Twice I have been attacked, once by a man another time by a pack of dogs, both times she stepped in front of me to defend. (Actually fighting the pack of dogs! The man backed away when the Mal growl and bared teeth.)
