Here’s how fast viruses spread in your office
“Only two to four hours after being deposited on a single doorknob or tabletop, viruses were present on more than half of workers and visitors in the building, as well as more than half of the surfaces they would commonly touch.”

Presenteeism: At Work—But Out of It
“Woody Allen once said that 80% of success in life can be attributed to simply showing up. But a growing body of research indicates that—in the workplace, at least—this wry estimate may be somewhat optimistic. Researchers say that presenteeism—the problem of workers’ being on the job but, because of illness or other medical conditions, not fully functioning—can cut individual productivity by one-third or more.”

I emailed my bossing telling him I was sick.

He didn't believe me and threatened to fire me if I didn't turn up.

My illness made nearly everyone in our team sick.

He fired me for infecting everyone....

Either I can take your advice, stay home, and get accused of being lazy or risk being fired.
Or I can go to work and get everyone sick, but keep my job.
Gee, what a tough

Everybody already know this the real problem is that you still have to go to work because of your boss they just don't care.

going to work isn't about helping the business its about getting paid

If I don't go to work, I don't get paid. I don't get paid, I die. Getting others sick is the least of my worries. If my boss paid me to stay home I wouldn't care.

You need to explain this to employers. Many employees come to work out of fear of losing their job.

gosh this is just a paradox you call in sick they say you're bsing them and they say you better come if you want to keep your job you come they say why the hell did you come you're sick #facepalm.

Problem is unfortunately there are some jobs where you just can't work at home.. And if everyone calls out sick, company is screwed.

But if I choose not to go to school I end up
1) Needing to pay for the doctor just to get a Medical Certificate(MC)
2) Missing out on what I learn
Not to mention on one will say "Hey Thank you for not coming to school when you're sick"!
In fact, I was consistently sick for a period and somehow a few of my classmates have the impression I was lazy, I think this applies even more so in work

Fuck this.

I love it. I will send this to all the sick ppl around me that are heroically going to work not knowing what that means to all the not yet sick ppl.

I go to work sick because I will get fired if I don't. In fact, I dislocated a rib from coughing so much while at work and got fired for not being able to continue working. Cool huh?

been ill with flu since Wednesday last week. Its literally our policy at work to not come in when ill with a cold or flu. Its because we work with turkeys, however the company take offense to the fact we get ill and expect us to be in anyways. Its a no win situation.

Yeah, but some of us can't afford to call in sick. Some of us get fired and/or lose that day's pay which is needed for bills.

Sounds right, but without sick leave it means the difference between paying the bills or not. Good luck everyone else! Hope your immune system is good!

How about the fact that I don't get paid enough per hour to be able to afford losing an 8 hour shift. Your examples are in the offices and higher (salaried) occupations. And those of us slinging burgers and passing out lattes? We don't have that luxury if we also want to pay our rent.

I called out of work about a month ago because I was sick and needed rest. My coworkers made fun of me for it. "I'll come to work until I can't stand anymore and have to go to a hospital" is what they all agreed upon. Whatever, I felt pretty good the next day I went in, probably shortened the cold by a couple of days.

I've worked in retail, one office job, and now I work from home. In retail, you more often than not, do not get sick days if you are a lowly cashier or shift lead (in the United States, anyway). So if you call in sick, you can get the day off, but you don't receive pay for that day. So people in that line of work come in sick for financial reasons.

I go to work sick, retail, have no choice. If we call in sick and can't get covered. (common thing since most retails only hire bare bones to maximize profits) than you get written up, and 4 of those in most places is termination.

Yeah, this was certainly made by/for people with office jobs. Unless you can find someone to work your shift, calling out sick is just not an option for a lot of people.
