Gigafactories are called that because they have battery production capacity in the GWh range. Terafactories will be in the TWh range. Same factories, new production scale.

A million mile battery might help the car charter companies, but not the guy doing 12, 000 miles per year. The cost of repairs on a Tesla are so high that nobody is going to keep one after the 8 year drive train warranty runs out.

The CATL iron phosphate battery was announced a long time ago, it gets less range, but has more recharges and faster charging. They are going to make up for range and meet a mid range model by removing the modules.
