This is a necessary conversation for the body of Christ today.

I understand people can be anxious of "being associated with those cooky people, " but the Bible seems to me clearly teaching the operating of the gifts today.

I am so glad to hear you are a continuationist. I am from a Pentecostal background, striving to connect to the ancient church. I'm so happy to see that I can keep my Pentecostal roots, while pursuing the ancient church. It is difficult to find a fellowship that is like minded.

"You will never find a more loving person than the Holy Spirit. He is Safe, He is Kind, He's not always Comfortable, but He's Good. He loves you." I think hearing you say this Gavin, I've realised that in part I have been afraid of the Holy Spirit. Hearing you speak _so_ warmly about him really moved me (I paused the video and write this!) in a way that I had knowledge of his goodness, but I hadn't embraced an experience of his goodness like you have. Gonna need to work with him on this... I haven't been cynical, but before I was a believer, growing up in a church that sought to manipulate the work of the Spirit and saw some frankly scary things for a primary-schooler, I've preferred to shy away from His work in me and in the church. When your conversation quotes scripture (a few minutes earlier than this) saying "eagerly desire the gifts of the spirit, including prophesy" - I haven't, I've been eagerly avoiding (like Sam said he did when he received the gift of tongues!). Thanks for the blessing of this conversation.

Legit question… Scripture tells us to “test the Spirit”. It’s easy to test a Specific prophecy. Either it comes true, or it doesn’t. BUT, how our we suppose to “test” Generic “prophetic words”, like for example:
“God gave me a word for you, he’s telling me he’s about to move big in your family.”
“The Lord told me, in a vision, 2024 will be a big year in the Church”
“Thus sayeth the Lord, many will cry out to Me this year.”
To me, that’s the sign of someone who is just reciting vague statements… not prophecy, and attempting to attribute it God. But, almost ALL of the well known “prophets” in the Charismatic movement say thing’s EXACTLY like this constantly. How is that “testable”??

The more i listened it seem to me Gift is as a Seed that need to be cultivated. All God's Gift are good and beneficial so is every good Seed but it is up to us to cultivate it.

Hello, this is very interesting, encouraging and serious and yet, Sam Storms said something that sounded like a very strong and problematic contradiction when he said: "those who quench the Holy Spirit don't experience less of the Spirit." This sounds like faulty humility, grace and triage. Isn't it obvious that quenching the Spirit leads to a limited activity of the Spirit and the benefits for the quencher and the Church?

Prophets of the Old Testament were often prophesying warnings, merciful warnings from God for people to turn from their current path. Today people take that as criticism and hate. You can’t say prophesy is only uplifting and encouraging words. Not biblically.

Wimber and the Vineyard did a lot of weird things. Why is he favorable to him?

Having gone to a pentacostal church here in Canada for 10 years ....i have expérienced alot of exagération & just false prophecies when Vineyard came to my church rolling on the Ground '' in the Spirit'' ....some making animal sounds as '' speaking in tongues ....Although i believe God can do anything MUST BE VERY CAREFUL The bible Says ....to discern and retain what is good concerning believe many many brothers & sisters....speak false tongues made up by i believe some believers have a genuine gift of tongues can heal ...i met also a sister in Christ who had such a POWERFUL gift of discernement ...she told me all my personnal hidden secrets while praying with me....i was AMAZED ....led me to repent of many things ....of course ...God can do the impossible...
But WE MUST BE VERY CAREFUL ....
and delicerance from démons in the name of Jésus is true also of course
WE HAVE TO JUDGE THE FRUIT ...i left and went to Baptist who rejected gifts ....now i am somewhere in the middle alwayts believed that God is God and do whatever He wants
