Napoleon chasing the Austrians through the mountains was really intense I think this might be my favourite epic history tv video so far.

What differentiates General Lee (American Civil War) from Napoleon (European War). It was Napoleon against a general who had 50 years of war experience and a very experienced army.

What this video leaves us with is that, despite all his victories and counter-attacks against the Austrians, Napoleon's situation becomes more dramatic and desperate than anything seen before.

We can see this in the current situation of his army: exhausted, partially sick, very few reinforcements, unable to use his already dispersed troops that besiege Mantua, protect his lines of communication and prevent revolts in Italian cities. With barely 20, 000 soldiers, far fewer than he has had to pursue and resist the Austrians in the previous months, he must hold out against the third Austrian attempt to liberate Mantua. He will have to use all of his cunning, skills and military genius to defeat his enemies in the coming months.

I wonder if Wermser should have set up an ambush in that narrow valley instead of going to Bassano? Set up artillery on the heights.
