Square Enix really shot themselves in the foot by making their biggest releases PS5 exclusive. They didn't perform poorly, but they didn't meet sales targets, which is bound to happen when you limit your audience base while trying to make up for massive budgets. Everyone wins with their newfound commitment to make their future major releases multiplatform.

Wow, limiting your game to only approx 1/3 of your user base limits your sales! Who woulda thought?

Maybe they shouldn't have blown all that money on NFTs and micro transactions.

Isn’t Square Enix the company that always complains about sales on all their games?

basically sony isnt paying enough to keep exclusivity. the fact is if you have to wait 1 year after the release of a game before you can play it on a console/pc you own you might as well wait another year for the game to go on sale. the hype is gone.

We live in a world where entitled companies think selling 3 million copies is an utter failure. Meanwhile, other studios thanked their fans for the 500k-1m copies sold.

Exclusivity of 3rd party titles benefits no one but the platform holder.

I stopped counting how many times Square Enix said about their games „the sales numbers didn’t meet OUR expectations“…

Exclusivity is never good for the customer. It's only good for the platform holder.

The amount of damage control being done to take away from Sony's meddling is insane. They are totally responsible for this.

Wow, who would have EVER known that limiting your players to only the people who can afford the newest generation consoles in a major economic downturn where inflation is rising rapidly and prices are already high, would be a bad idea?

Truly, it’s just impossible to look at the situation and determine smart moves.

“disappointing sales” is codeword for “we didnt make even more money”

Setting aside the hyper unrealistic expectations these publishers have, it was beyond stupid to lock these games to a single console platform.

That was never going to end well.

There’s actually some people out there saying to “just buy a PS5”. Many people can’t shell out $500 dollars on the fly. And even if you can, $500 to play one or two games? I’m good!

man, covid really gave companies unreal expectations of what people will do.

Available on one platform: ✔️

$70 standard edition: ✔️

Bad world economy: ✔️

What’s the surprise here

I’m confused….only selling to one console makes less money as opposed to selling to all the consoles?? How?!?! Someone needs to run the numbers again.

Wait, you mean to tell me that restricting where your products are sold can actually hurt the sales of said products?

😮
