I spent a year creating a difficult climbing game inspired by the rage game Getting Over It With Bennett Foddy. I am a big fan of Bennett's work! Ever since Getting Over It came out I was sure countless similar games would pop up, but I was disappointed to see this not materialize fully so I took it upon myself to create this game, hoping to contribute to a "Foddian Type" game genre.

It's hard to condense a year's work into 15 minutes, there are obviously a million things I could have mentioned. I included the parts I found most interesting and I tried to focus mainly on the design rather than the super technical bits. Feel free to hit me up on Twitter or join the Discord if you have any specific questions about the game :)

I really admire people who have an idea and then just... do it.

That swimming animation is ultra-realistic. That's how I swim. Both arms sideways at the same time. Great attention to detail!

The simplicity in scripting, the humor, and the actual entertainment.

New sub.

That first leg movement with physics really was a spectacle to behold, any game where a knee can rotate 360 more than it should is a worthy game in my eyes

“Frustration is just apart of learning something new”

I wish all game companies made YouTube videos like this😂 This was awesome, I bought the game and I’m loving the challenge! Please make more of this!!

Seeing you doing flips with your character just SCREAMS the need for an achievement like : "do a flip and grab a rock without falling", or stuff like that!
The game looks amazing!

13:01 I laughed so hard cause it was a simple solution and everyone would've fixed it differently, yours was creative

I appreciate your practical approach of making a game that doesn't take itself seriously, and using pre-existing resources to lesson the workload. I tend to do everything from absolute scratch and have a perfectionist complex that prevents me from getting things done efficiently. Like, the stupid way the guys arms flaps in the water to "swim". That's what makes a game fun.

Congrats on the success of your game! I’m so happy for you! After all you have struggled through game development you definitely deserve this win ❤

Just dropping by after finishing the game to say thank you for a wonderful time. it really captures that feeling of getting over it, with the initial disdain, to the satisfaction of the beating the game, its definitely going to stay installed for those quick sessions. Thank you, Pontypants

Thanks for the game, just finished it right now after 9 hours in, had a lot of fun and frustration lol. I really liked Getting Over It as well, I completed that for about a 100 times, so it was kinda wholesome to see that this game was inspired from getting over it as well. Also it was sweet of you to thank everyone including Getting over it, the player and your wife for the support so here's a thanks to you for making a fun game. Btw that nietzsche quote at the end perfectly summarizes the game and the real life XD

I love you, Pontypants. This video clearly shows the true reason why and how a person should develop games - not only for the sake of a result, but also for the process itself (it's equally difficult and fun), and through practice, lots of it. Thanks a lot. This is something I've known for long, but only after watching this I finally got it right in my head. Now down to work.

Hands down the best kind of promo for a game. Dude just being genuine about something he made.

Wasn't really interested, but am going to buy it just because I respect the process.

This is a really unique way to show off this game's development journey by having it all condensed into 1 video over a year long process. Great work!
