With no data to back this up, it is my perception that more and more FPV pilots have other goals besides hard core ACRO stunts or racing. I run into some pilots that seem to think that FPV means ACRO stunt flying...ONLY. Thing is, I never considered FPV (First Person View) which is merely a piloting perspective to be, in any way, a flying style because it isn't. There are many flying styles in FPV including endurance, long range, cinematic, acrobatic, racing, easy cruising, model airplane dogfighting, etc. From my perspective, there is a trend moving towards longer fly time than towards hi-performance...or at least the "old school" hi-performance. I have no idea why, but it seems so to me.

By the way, thanks for your latest "Learn to fly FPV" video series. The first video is the best that I have seen of anyone actually explaining how ACRO mode works. Once a person gets their head around it, flying in ACRO mode becomes understandable. Still unintuitive, but understandable.

is there any downside to using 18650 battery holder clips vs a battery pack? I know there are some losses in the metal connectors but is it enough to warrant the price of a battery pack versus invidual 18650 cells I can replace at will if one is damaged or loses performance? Thanks

Molicel p45b (45A continuous) are the best I’ve tried. Built a 9000mah 6S2P (90A continuous) for my 7 inch long range and I’m amazed how hard I can fly it and it just barely gets warm. On my last flight/video I maintained over 100kmh for most of the flight into a head wind pulling between 30 and 50 amps for the most part and by the time I landed the pack was barely warm. It’s also so nice to never have to worry about about capacity for 10 to 15km flights.

Got 42min flight time on a 8000mah 6PS2 DIY pack with a Mario Fold. I have a 4500mah lipo that weights the same and gives me 15min. The power is just enough, and when is not, I have the lipo. So yeah, they're great. The downside is that they're very expensive if you buy them pre-made, but if you make your own packs it's pretty awesome

so…. should i switch? are there more downsides other than cost?

To my knowledge, sony murata vct5 gives the most Amp draw at 35A with 60A burst. They cost me between 5 and 10 $ per cell.
What are they doing if they are charging 100$? Braided copper strips instead of nickel strips? Anti spark xt90?
My battery shop sells cells and makes packs per custom design, I don't really see a use case for this expensive products.

Molicel P50 are the future, they give you enough time and power for 70% users, the other 30% need fast lipo for racing and freestyle. Of course all drone above 3.5 inch

For bigger long-range quads Li-Ion packs are great. I just posted a test of 18650 vs 21700 6s2p packs a couple weeks ago. Getting 30min flight times!
But Lipo packs are still more versatile for most quads.

Promoting these Liion Companies is pointless
21700 Molicell
18650 Sony or Molicell
Easy as this
And much cheaper
And you know what you get

Been flying 4S Li-Ion 21700s (Molicel P42A and the more recent P45B) on my long range quad for some time and they're amazing, I don't fly crazy freestyle but they're ideal for super long flight times. I found Lipo's to be a complete pain and with limited lifespan. Also running a Sony 18650 on a 1S quad I had built which gets around 12 mins FT, and a 6S 21700's on a heli. Don't see myself getting any more lipos in the future.
