Do you have a lithium ion battery that won’t charge? This video will show you how to fix that. Remember you don’t need a power supply, just a good battery of the same type and size and a couple of wires and connectors to connect them.

Likely what happened was you discharged it below what the charger reads as acceptable and hence why it flashed that weird pattern.

Done that before with my RC cars and I used a NImH charger on a LiPo pack (very dangerous) and it brought the pack back to life enough to be put on a balance charger.

Also, use your batteries or charge them regularly if you don’t. Commercial lithium just needs to have a charge above 80% to be okay for long durations as the chemistry is more stable than LiPo. Don’t do the same to LiPo or you risk a fire.

When charging this way you should limit the amperage at the power supply to a few hundred milliamps and let the batteries trickle charge it just enough to get it to be recognized by the charger.

Nice. We use this method in RC lipos, to bring the cells back up to a safe level. I'd highly recommend to not leave them unattended when doing the charging and to charge in a "fire safe" location, just incase the cells overheats and ruptures.

I just got one of my fake Ryobi batteries act the same way a couple days ago.
Thanks for sharing Eric. 👍👍👍

this can be dangerous, if the cells were too low(which is the only reason they wouldn't charge) it can cause the batteries to overheat when charging.
I imagine the charger is over-protective since exploding lithium cells is bad for business..

I do this with my dewalt batteries, but I jump it using another good fully charged battery and you only need them hooked up to each other for like 10-15sec 👌

Missing the regular videos from my favourite YouTuber but ill take what i can get!
How are the batteries doing after revival? Are they weaker batteries on their way out?

We do same concept with the lipo batteries for the remote control world

Next time do this.
Turn amp down to zero end set volt to 12.6. shortcut the powersupply and turn amp up to 1.0A. Connect battery.
This way you will charge it correctly CCCV in a safe way. And it is safe to forget it.

I didn't use my Roomba for like 2 years because it's, well, useless. After that it wouldn't charge for more than about 15 seconds before erroring out and refusing to charge. Letting it cycle through that enough times though got enough of a charge into the battery for the charger to work normally. That's one thing they don't normally talk about with lithium ion batteries. Chargers are NOT designed to handle dead or even deeply discharged batteries. If they are below a set voltage a normal charger will simply give up and refuse to charge them. You can often revive them by getting the voltage above the minimum threshold by alternate means.

My impact gun battery is flashing red/green.
I'm going to try this!

Shouldn't need anything close to 15 minutes. Just need to bring the charge up slightly for charger to recognize a good battery.

Hey eric wouldnt it be better to put the power suppply at 13.2 volts? I always thought charging voltage was supposed to be a bit higher than the battery voltage

I've been doing this for a long time, just don't mix up the terminals.

I’ve had to do this with my dewalt batteries. I connect two together for about 5 seconds and then throw it on the charger.

this happens to a battery when one of its cells loses capacity. Instead of tension 4.2+4.2+4.2 in it for example 4.2+4.2+3.7 . The battery can't be used for a long time anyway. It's like a car battery that has one of the six cans out of order. what happens if you charge it with a voltage of 14.4 volts?

Next time try it for 10 seconds
Good video nonetheless🎉🎉

That's a terrible idea, the battery will pull far too much current in that state, much better to load charge it. I'm surprised it didn't go thermonuclear 😮

Very dangerous at the amp limit you set, much safer at 500mA just enough to get the above the lower limit of the stock charger.
