@1:30 - Quick story. I used to dive in the 80s and catch fish for my tank. I lived in South Florida at the time. I had a lion fish that I bought but one day while diving I caught a really dirty scorpion fish. I figured I could have both in same tank because well they are both preditors and both poisonous so why not. After about 2 weeks all the dirt camo came off of the scorpion fish and I was watching him sit on one of my rocks. Along came the lion fish and as I was watching... GULP. Lionfish ate the scorpion fish and then swam off like nothing happened.

I don’t even feel like your videos are just for beginners, meaning it’s not some slimmed down basics, it’s thorough well thought out information presented in an accessible and easy to understand way. 🅰️➕

Well thought out video Matthew. This took time to research each and every fish that would make a good fit for someone starting off and not making costly mistakes

I am not new, but I friggin LOVE puffs! I am preparing a new Puff tank...have not yet decided green spotted or F8.. for now the drilled aquarium is 40 but the stand I built is upgradable to 75.. the tank should be up and cycling within the next one - two months...with a puff in the next 3 -4 months or so.. in the meantime.. I need a planted freshwater snail factory aquarium! Puffs LOVE snails!

I thought the species of your puffer was a valentini?? 🐡
I just had a blue spotted puffer die 😞 I’m new to the hobby and I love puffers but I think they’re harder, so not surprised to see them on your list.
Great channel! I’ve learned sooo much by watching your videos, you explain things so well. It’s really helping me a lot. 🐠🪸🐟🪸

Because someone is a beginner at keeping fish does not mean they have little money. Love the shows though!.

Tangs rock but not good starter. Should add to tank last anyway. I agree.

Also, completely agree on tangs. Many need a mature tank for algae grazing, a 5+ foot tank to have plenty of swimming room and can be ich magnets.

I kind of agree with the tang statement. I feel like bristle tooth and tomini tangs are the only exception from the rule. Especially since they don't get as big or need as much swimming space

My opinion on tang is that they are all different… I have 6 tangs and way they interact in different even over time.. even aggressive tang becomes gentle as times goes on… their hierarchy changes over time. Some were being bullied but later on, they bully other tang….
So yes, tangs are not beginner fish, but you have to do different test to see how they get along and what sequence on how they are introduced to the tank. When some tang gets aggressive, I put them in sump temporary and put them in later.

Im so nervous... Im still busy making a list of beginner fish I want to get once I actually start a new tank, so far I survived :) I'm probably going to do a 120g.

Current list:

2x clown fish (probably black/white clowns)
Six Line Wrasse? (for pest control)
Yellow tang. (for light alge control work, or just being a nice pretty yellow fish)
some kind of goby but only after a year.

Snails (still need to get the right species names)
hermit crabs
Peppermint shrimps x2 (i like these, I want more than one :) )

O yea, also planning on some corrals, so no corral eating fish for now :)

Cherub Pygmy Angel - any pointers or suggestions on care and coral to try first ? We made the beginner mistake (?)

Cows are so cool, but should not be kept in a tank unless the tank is dedicated to Cows. They're ich magnets. Sad

Sounds like exactly what i would advise against as well.
