How to replace surface mount / smd IC is a nice clear soldering tutorial showing you a straight forward , easy to follow method for replacing a 100 PIN QFP ( Quad flat pack ) IC.
See also how you can protect your nearby components while removing your smd IC's , and learn the temperatures and solder you need to make your job so much easier .
The Solder used in this video is available from BLT Circuits ( England ) , temperature used for resoldering the IC was 340 degrees Celsius ( leaded solder ) , plus 340 - 400 degrees Celsius for the removal , depends what your removing , using a QUICK861DA station.
If you enjoy this soldering tutorial and find it of use please like and subscribe and hit the notification Bell so as to not miss out on any future soldering tutorials. Also please check out my many other soldering guides covering a wide variety of different subjects
Thank you for your time and good luck .

I just first wanted to say thank you for all the hard work you do when it comes to producing these videos and sharing your knowledge with us. While I have learned so much from your videos (which I often put the information to use right way by practicing on "junk boards") I do have one question, when it comes to removing and replacing SMD ICs (and in this case specifically a BGA IC) how to you properly lift the chip from the pcb when there are a decent number of smaller SMD parts on the back side of the PCB just under the IC you are going to lift? My first idea is to use the pre-heating station to heat the board to 100C and then use the hot air gun plus Flux to heat the BGA area up to the point where I can lift the chip; however, I am worried that all the smd resistors and capacitors on the back side of the PCB will fall off when I do this.

Thankyou, your videos are just what i needed. I'm having difficulty resoldering in an ic on what looks like a ceramic pcb. I snipped half the legs off which sent a shockwave dislodging the pads on that side. So i can't solder to the substrate underneath, although it is conductive. The other side is ok as i just flexed the ic like a hinge until the oins snapped. I still have useable tinned pads on that side. I'm trying conductive glue on the padless side, but it's tricky as i messed up taking the weight off the ic too soon as it was curing. I bet you could sort it. If only i could send it to you...

Very nice work. I am trying to up my SMT game, and your videos are helping a lot.

Thanks, well presented. I need to practise more with hot air - I keep burning boards or melting surrounding parts before a part desolders. I’ll try out some aluminium tape!

I find sweep soldering much faster and easier than doing each leg individually. Good vid though 👍

Great demo of how to do this properly and neatly.
I have a problem with desoldering braid "sticking" to pads. Plenty of flux, I think. Could it be iron head too small, not enough heat, flux has burnt off, poor quality braid....any ideas?
