Fun fact: the most common variety of banana before 1950 was the Big Mike variety. A fungus wiped out most of the plantations, so they started growing the hardier Cavendish varieties we have today.

Big Mike bananas have a higher concentration of isoamyl acetate - a common artificial banana flavouring - leading to the myth that banana flavouring was based on that variety. I'm very sad that it's probably not true.

Other fum fact: Bananas are also radioactive, since they contain a lot of potassium which is radioactive (but so little it doesn't really do anything 😂)

Other fun fact about bananas and mosquitoes, there is a way to not be bitten in the first place.
Just before camping give the banana to your friends, the potassium will attract the insects and you will be left alone :D
