If anyone thinks he is religious and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his heart, this person's religion is worthless. Religion that is pure and undefiled before God the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.

And we should say “if the Lord wills” theoretically this could lead to time travel

How did you interpret bridle the tongue to mean many words rather than choice of words?

I'm confused about the placement of the word "and" there at the end. "And to keep oneself unspotted". Could the interpretation be, "by helping the poor and the widows, a person can keep themselves unspotted from the world"?
