We’ve visited lots of places in our solar system in the last 60 years, but modern technology has made an unlikely candidate the hottest new frontier of solar system exploration: asteroids. Today, we’ll take a look at a few exciting discoveries that marked some asteroid firsts.

Moral of the story: have your two sons raised by a she-wolf, have an asteroid named after you thousands of years later!

I hope we can explore the kuiper belt one day, I would love to see what's out there!! The outer solar system as a whole is super interesting to me tbh

I'm still blown away with a robot landing on a asteroid or was that a peanut shaped moon? It just barely made it.landed in the shadows

Wasn't sure at first, but that beard is really rocking Reid.

Is it something that could be mined for platinum or other important elements?

Could be a lot easier to capture and pull an asteroid into earth orbit for study or mining if it starts inside our solar orbit, vs capturing one outside our orbit and trying to bring it back.
Moving away from the sun is generally easier than moving toward the sun in terms of velocity change needed.

Just make sure International Rescue is on standby for any missions to close solar asteroids.

How much will the gravity of a space craft affect a 5km asteroid?

Sylvia was named after Rhea Sylvia, the woman ancient Romans believed gave birth to Rome's off during an ancient collision.
I'll let you think about that.

What is really odd to me is, we have named every moon that belongs to every planet in our solar for our own. After all these years of naming all the other moons, ours is still simply moon". Does anyone know why we have never named our own?

Best not be knocking any more chunks off asteroid 24 Themis - don't want to risk triggering 'Roid Rage!

SciShow aka Roman Atheist Show even though they're talking about asteroids

Ahh, nothing about Oumuamua, AKA Rama? That has got to be the most interesting asteroid discovered in the last couple of years. Here it comes; there it goes.
