2AZ-FE Oil Burner Fix - Toyota RAV4 2.4-liter - Timing Cover Swap Camry HIghlander Corolla Scion TC
Показать описание
This engine is being replaced because it burns oil. Excessive oil consumption is a known problem on the 2AZ-FE, caused by a fault in the piston and ring design.
Swapping some engine components can be expected when replacing an engine, but who knew it might be necessary to swap an entire timing cover to make the replacement engine fit.
The engine we purchased to replace the oil burner 2.4-liter 2AZ-FE turned out to have a completely different timing cover that would not work for mounting in the RAV4 - even though it's the same engine, another 2.4-liter 2AZ-FE! But from a different chassis.
Thank you Toyota for yet another design mis-step, as if more mis-steos were even needed for this engine!
The 2AZ-FE goes in a range of different vehicles including RAV4, Camry, Highlander, Corolla, Scion TC, but seriously, was it necessary to give it a different timing cover for a different chassis? This is either absurd or ridiculous, I don't know which.
Fortunately, swapping the timing cover is easy, just undo a few bolts and pop the old timing cover off, then pop the new one on. And voila, the world's fastest timing cover swap.
This video is for the purpose of entertainment only. Key steps of the engine assembly process are omitted.
