In this video, we’re going to explain why everyone thought he’d call the election in the autumn, and provide six possible theories for why he called it now instead.

My best guess is that Sunak thought the Tories were going to no confidence him- Calling an election _now_ essentially makes him indispensible.

He was about to be challenged for the leadership, no choice

Option 7: Sunak has knifed the headbanger MPs who were going to knife him. Collateral damage? Why would he care when his career is basically over?

I think the main reason is the belief that the UK population are stupid. That 14 years of misrule can be undone by the fact summer means people won't see crippling heating bills, there is less pressure on the NHS, and that if it's sunny everyone will be in a nice mood. And honestly, it's probably worth more than a few % points on the day.

My local Tory MP sent out bullshit-filled flyers a few weeks ago which desperately begged for people to vote for him "This summer." It wasn't a surprise at all.

Call the election in the summer so all the uni students and working class parents with school children are away on holidays. Retired people who are more likely to vote conservative like to vacation during the off seasons. Worked well for the brexit vote. Remember to register for mail in voting!

Things gonna get worse. Rather than facing a coup he'd rather be voted out of office. Also, he's applying for a US citizenship.

TLDR: Surprise
1. Surprise himself
2. Surprise Reform
3. Surprise Labour
4. Surprise Torries
5. Surprised by Bank of England
6. Can't handle future surprises

Somehow I have a feeling that he knows he will lose, and there’s a possible threat of no confidence against him.
“If I’m going out, I’m going out with a bang.”

Sunak is not stupid. He's a clever man. He knows something that we don't. I thinknhe probably wants to save his back, or it's financially beneficial for him to leave.

Sunak is heading for a round of Wipeout, he stood in the rain cuz he knew he'd get wet anyways by falling into the drink.

You missed that he might have faced a damaging no confidence vote due to his split party putting in no confidence letters
