Poll shows the public prefer an early election, but the PM holds the power to decide. Will Rishi Sunak call for a May election, despite saying it would be later this year? This video explores the implications of an early election possibility.

The people want a general election, why in this instance won’t the Tories now support ‘the will of the people’? It’s all they banged on about from 2016-2019.

Sunak Will call the election after he's finished ripping the copper wiring out of number 10

he's trying to delay in order to eat into the Labour lead

his problem is he is in danger of not only allowing Labour to increase their lead but allowing Reform to eat more into the Tory vote

You guys should include register to vote links in the video descriptions when you're talking about elections

The Election date being up to the Prime Minister is the least democratic thing in this very undemocratic system we live in.

The election should just be on a set date every time.

You missed some of the biggest factors:
- Small boats will increase over the summer due to weather, opening up strong attack lines for Reform UK.
- The tories are spending campaign finances too quickly and will run out if it's not until October
- Isaac Levido is in and out of number ten far more often than we'd expect 6 months out from an election.

theres also the fact that every month they delay hundreds of thousands more homeowners will reach the end of their pre inflation fixed term mortgages and be forced to remortgage at the much higher interest rate. Which will bring down their standard of living significantly whatever else is going on. And the tories rely on winning over established home owners as one of their core voting blocks to win elections. The more time goes by the more pensioners will notice that their taxes have gone up in the recent budget too and therefore their income has gone down. Pensioners being the last hard core group of tory voters in the country. There's also the fact that even if they get the Rwanda bill pushed through parliament they have no plan to actually get any flights taking off, and any plan they start putting together now will take months and a lot of money to get working. Which will make them look even more incompetent after pushing soo hard to bring it into law. If they do get it working then it will become immediately obvious that it has zero impact on small boat numbers. It really does make far more sense for them to get the election done soon before the other shoes drops on all these other issues

The most important reason to delay the election is to hold onto power and the state's resources for a few more months.

So the tories will cling onto power for as long as they possibly can. What a surprise 🙄

The moment Sunak's said the election would not be in May, I believed it would be in May.

"Autum". It's not a TLDR video if there's no misspelling somewhere!

Something you didn’t cover is that by delaying the election another 6 months they get to be in power for 6 more months as the Tories almost certainly will be thrashed. Rishi might just want 6 more months of being in the big seat, before retiring to his families islands and having cocktails

I mean if the earlier means less time to cause multiple scandals, then...

As an American let me just say that the blood contamination scandal, still going in 2024 is a MASSIVE DISGRACE. In America we dealt with the civil fallout for these things when it happened. The fact that there has been no civil or criminal Justice in Britain is WILD.

Why do people keep discussing this with political logic?

Rishi’s at the behest of his wife(‘s father’s) business interests. The obfuscation and FOI denials around any ongoings regarding infosys or similar meetings show that clearly.

He will run the country into the ground to be a good little lapdog; his joint interview with wife last week showed how much she resents and controls him.

He will hang in for as long as he can, the 1922 commission stepping up are the only thing that would force an election sooner than the last day.
