I believe the Minnesota joke is a reference to a cartography error back in the 1800s that mislabeled Oregon as Minnesota

While the official German anthem starts with "Germany", it isn't used anymore. See, the song has three parts, and two of them aren't being sung anymore since WW2, cause they were associated with N*zis. So if you hear Germans singing their anthem before football matches, they are technically only singing the third stanza.
(Additional info: the first stanza starts with "Germany, Germany above all, above all else in the world", which was originally meant as a sort of call to come together to form Germany before Germany was a thing. Got taken out of context by the N*zis.)

As a german, our national anthem does NOT start with "Deutschland" anymore, that was about 80 years ago
