The Prince of Wales says he understands why campaigners from organisations like Extinction Rebellion take to the streets to demand action on climate change.

But, Prince Charles said actions like blocking roads "isn't helpful".

Speaking in the gardens of his house  on the Balmoral estate in Aberdeenshire, the prince said it had taken too long for the world to wake up to the risks of climate change.

He said he worried world leaders could "just talk" when they meet in Glasgow in November for a crucial UN climate conference.

Challenged about his own efforts to reduce his carbon footprint, Prince Charles said he had converted his favourite vehicle, an Aston Martin he has owned for 51 years, to run on what he described as "surplus English white wine and whey from the cheese process".

He’s a deep thinker, very contemplative, has a personality. In 70 years of rule, we never really knew much about Elizabeth. I think people will be pleasantly surprised by him.

As an American, I really like his environmental stance. I wish people would pay more attention to what is happening. Good interview 👍

Wonderful interview, seems like a genuinely kind and intelligent man. It’s funny that for a long time he was considered to be a bit crazy for his views on the climate but now he’s been proven right.

I heard the King criticized for being "sensitive." We need sensitivity, we need to quiet...I am such a talker, but to learn to listen longer and deeper is one of my greatest ambitions. When he said the river provided a lovely sound from the house....wow! That is such a statement.

What a smart man is our king. He's absolutely right aswell. If I were making big decisions in government, I would ask for his advice moving forward concerning our environment and improving it.

Prince Charles is not an idiot. He does studies, reads and is open to discuss for the better of the environment. He is passionate. He worked for it to be done. Major applause.

I was a bit on the fence with Charles but seeing this interview, glossing over the wine fueled car, I can certainly get behind his stance on the environment and it feel good that he feels this way about it and is trying his best to make a better life for our decendance. He's got my support.

As King Charles III now, listening to him, he is going to be a great person leading the UK through the 21st Century with his great concerns on the environment and how to get us out of this old era of damaging the Earth and getting temperatures down.

I tell you Brits this for nothing, Charles is an absolute saint compared with the crown princes of some other countries

Such a gorgeous and enchanting garden! There is nothing wrong in talking to plants. People are just really mean. Prince Charles did and accomplished a lot and not a lot of people know it! At 73, he continues to make changes, do his research on how to lessen his carbon footprints, while others dont care. They just criticize without knowing and not educating themselves, yet these people feel they know more. There are people who are just so hateful and narrow minded. But I am so happy that our royal family despite the intense criticisms from people have always rose above it and continues to be proactive and deliver. Absolutely happy how Prince Charles handled this interview. Such intelligence, funny sense of humour and real. He will be a great King!!! 🇬🇧 🌹

He will be a better king than many give him credit for. A monarch needs to bring unity, togetherness, compassion and genuine health.

The government rules, the monarch is there to heal and bring us together. And he seems so gentle and warm.

I have been following the Prince of Wales since he inherited his title, he was a man
way before his time telling the world the dangers of climate change the better
health for organic gardening the damage for our oceans and no one took him
seriously I am so glad to see that he is being recognized for his diligence in
saving the planet . This was a wonderful interview and I loved seeing Prince Georges
garden. I think Biden should have a long talk with the Prince Charles maybe some of
Prince Charles wisdom would rub off on him.

Prince Charles is a quietly taumatised man. Although he is materially comfortable he looks in a lot of pain. I think he with all this trauma of his life has done his very very best. Tried to be there for both sons & has been at the fore front of organic gardening & conservation long before it was fashionable. Bravo Prince Charles. We have huge compassion & understanding of you. This is a good man.

American here. He is spot on. At 70 cant say enough myself on the subject. We living in a world of to much excess . Food materials goods insane use of our ground water . The list goes on.

I have so much respect for King Charles's older interview. He is absolutely right. We have to make drastic change now to save the planet.
