Although the first time we ever heard the word “Sith” on screen was in The Phantom Menace, it was actually included in the early drafts of A New Hope all the way back in 1975. The term even appeared in the Star Wars novelization released in 1976, referring to Darth Vader as a Dark Lord of the Sith. But did you know it was said in an extended scene in A New Hope? General Tagge said it in the Death Star conference room.

I wonder how he came up with the word "Sith." It even sounds sinister!

I had a T-shirt that called him Lord of the Sith. I think I had a poster with it too. This was in 1978.

If people had longer lifespans, I wonder how CS lewis And Tolkien, would have thought of Star Wars and modern fiction 🤔

Isn't the modern lore now that majority in the Empire doesn't know Emperor and Vader are Sith?

If this was in the first movie, Dark Jedi term would never have been created, which would have had butterfly effect on the Grey Jedi concept.

I swear I have an Empire Strikes Back trading card with a picture of Darth Vader and "Dark Lord of the Sith" under it. But I can't find it.

There was a Star Wars vinyl record audio story that called Darth Vader "the dark lord of the Sith" from that era too.
