Hey guys, one correction to my video: Lighter skin tones in clog 2 should hit around 55 ire.
That camera was used for a livestream the day before and was in bt709 so it displays different values for proper exposure (yes I realize the irony of this lol).
Everything else I said about rating the camera for the proper iso, using false color, and watching for clipping in the highlights and shadows is all still accurate. Done is better than perfect, and I don’t have time to reshoot it this week. Hope it is still helpful 🤙

Like the best exposure explanation for Clog 2 - not a chart in the studio ... good old realworld! Thanks man!

You giving up your lunch break so we can benefit is very generous. Thank you.

Best demonstration I've ever seen in any video thank you so much

It seems so counterintuitive to raise the ISO in very bright situations but if shooting in some flavor of clog I like to think of it in terms of making the sensor MORE sensitive to very bright situations to capture those highlights, ND up, set ISO to 800-1600. Nice job, per usual. 🤙🏼

I've watched so many videos here on YT to understand how to expose correctly. Everything is only explained in post-process. Then I see your video. 3 years old, totally improvised and still the best in my eyes to see live how it works. I like the different situations best. Two close to the studio and then outside where you can't really control anything. TOP VIDEO MAN!

Great tip about ISO. I think many people see "base ISO" and think they need to stay there in every situation and you explained perfectly why that isn't the case. If I was shooting with my URSA G2 in the scenario with Flo, I would be at ISO 1600 since it has even better highlight details than 800 on that camera. So valuable really knowing your camera. Great video brother!

Love that it was raw and super informative!!! You could do this all day!! it doesnt need to be super produced ect.. Information delivered without much fluff is super valuable. Thank you for taking the time.. more videos like this would be great!!!

Man you make me want a C70 more than any other YouTuber creating content on this camera.. lol. Well done, thanks for the great content. Keep up the good work.

This was a fantastic video! Really learnt a lot about ISO at bright and dark areas. I would never have thought having 800iso in bright light would be a thing! Thanks mate.

Thanks for this C70 series. I'm a doc filmmaker who just got my hands on a C70 after over a year of researching and waiting. As a former C-100 mk II user, I'm loving this camera and it is everything I wanted but didn't have from the C100. I'm hoping I can use this camera for the next 5 years, at least, and bring in a C300 mk III or C500 mk II as the A-cam on gigs when we have the budget for another rental.

Great tips Griffin! Especially the bright daylight/ISO 800 advice!

great tips again! I didn't realize that about the better highlight retention at 800 vs. 400. Thanks, Griffin!

Great video, Griffin! (and thanks for the correction post about waveform viewing in Rec709).

I realaize that a lot of people struggle with the concept of raising ISO in highlight-heavy scenes, as it does seem counter-intuitive. This is how I think about it:

In a log space, I NEVER view ISO as an exposure tool. Rather, I see it as a tool to either a) maximize dynamic range (set at native ISO), or b) reduce noise (set lower than native ISO, to the detriment to highlight range). As in, if it's bright outside, I want the most about on Dynamic Range, so I would set C-Log 2 to ISO 800. In a dark space with no specular or extream highlight info, I would lower it to below native and be fine with the loss in highlight range, since there's nothing that will be lost in that range anyways.

Hope that helps with anyone trying to wrap their head around this!
