YouTube Shorts Longer than 60 seconds?

Will Youtube shorts ever be longer than 1 minute. In a recent interview with Colin and Samir, here is what the product lead for YouTube shorts had to say!

Except for the fact that content between 1 and 9 minutes is not so common anymore on YT and the algorythm pushes more videos longer than 10 minutes to include more ads. So basically YT is telling us to ignore this platform if we create content between 1 and 9 minutes

This is one of those rare times where YouTube makes a good decision.

We all need a longer length than 60 seconds, firstly wish shorts could be around 90 seconds or so, cuz alot wants to have some of their vids longer, usually from edits. explanation. and other stuff gets cut off.

Usually the most problem for the 60 seconds shorts length limit in YT Shorts is definitely edit videos.

The physical/psychological ramifications of keeping it too short is that people will have to physically flip their phones switching in between long and short videos, meaning they are either scrolling short, lower info content or watching long form videos (unable to scroll). Other platforms will keep people on their platforms for longer periods of time, depending on if they like a variety or just want small quick info or entertainment/long comprehensive info or entertainment. Either way it depends on their consumers.

My video is literally 1:12 I don't want to cut off some parts of the video. It's annoying they should make it longer

Well, there’s the debate that TikTok allows videos in vertical form upwards of three minutes. Could go Beta but I doubt it’ll stick.
