You failed to mention one of the hardiest, intelligent and most versatile dog breeds for hiking and backpacking... the Australian Cattle-dog. Not only are they tough, but their size, stamina in adverse conditions, and acute awareness of their surroundings makes hiking and backpacking simple with them. Honestly, this seems like a random selecting of dogs with no real research or hands on experience. I have logged many miles with Gus my Heeler and he has never failed me even now at his ripe old age of 9yrs.

The dog around 6:26 is an English Cream Golden Retriever (my vote for best adventure dog).

Ridgebacks are my favorite breed. I have a yorkie now and he's an awesome hiking companion. Great endurance! 🐕

My personal favorites are my two English Shepherds. It’s an unusual breed. Look them up! They are smart, brave, protective dogs who bond with their people. Both of mine have immediate recall off leash.

Love my Catahoula Cur. Stray, no chip, no takers to many 'Found' ads, 13 years later, we don't adventure anymore, but he kept up amazingly until recent. He's the best dog I've ever had. Excellent guard dog, very protective, super athletic, insanely fast in his prime, but can also CHILL in home and is a big cuddle bug. He's in his last years, and my heart already breaks.

My hiking partner is a Rottweiler. He carries his own food. On day hikes he carries my lunch and water also.

If your talking about truly rough country hikes I don't think I'd take a Corgi. Now if its not real rough and not super long a Corgi might be good to walk to where you set up a tent and warm the sleeping bag for you.

Well Corgis don't even have a strength and stamina as Beagles or JRTs. Their short legs make them already stick out their tongue even on an easy terrain for hours. Meanwhile my Beagle could hike with me on Mountains which required heavy climbing and hard terrain to reach its Summit, she even doesn't get tired for 6-8 hours hike with only short of time of resting (for drink or eat) in between. I barely camp on my Summit, we usually go up and down in one day so you could calculated how many kilometers we had conquered.
