The reason the song sounds a bit disjointed is because the following lines were in the original theatrical release of the song right after “the cogs begin to burn in pound”:

“A hundred knives go slice, slice, slice;
We add some sugar, cream, and spice;”

These two lines were cut out of the song in the home DVD, and all future releases of the movie. They just did an edit, and never addressed why. The only reason I know those two lines were there was because I saw the original theatrical release and I was excited that the song was following the book. I guarantee 100% those two lines were in that song in the original theatrical release.
