just from what I'm logging alone, there are multiple HUGE issues that need fixing on the pico neo 3 link, it's been silent for a long time now most likely because the team were gearing up for xperion and gamescon and now are rushing to get another headset out the door, this doesn't bode well in my mind as I'm just a nerd who likes tinkering, yet I'm finding issues that simply shouldn't exist in VR, regardless of it being beta, if I know what is going on when prodding around, pico should have most certainly known before shipping anything.

with no proper fixes for the most pressing issues since day 1 and another headset being pushed so soon, I seriously hope the same mistakes don't make it into their next headset, as it won't matter what the spec or price is, or that 35% off, for PC it will be a huge avoid, given I've spent more time debugging, fixing, doing everything possible to help Pico know about the issues and here were are, still twiddling thumbs as to an acknowledgement they understand the report, let alone will be fixing it.

I really like my neo 3 link but it's because I know the hardware is solid, the OS is more open and suitable for my standalone needs, but the foundations of their VR drivers are just bizarre.

at a fundamental driver level with the neo 3 the way pico work with rendered image is completely backwards, they have labelled height as width and are now unable to actually correct this.

that's just insane and makes PCVR renders completely messed up, sure, they've swapped height and width now in pc driver but only after it was pointed out it could be done so by a discord user, the distortion correction and world scale is still off though as if we ask to correct height profile, you guessed it, the width gets changed, its beyond silly how it is even like this.

biggest gripe from me is steam still looks to the original reported details of the panel, the whole benefit of running a direct display headset is steam could control resolutions and refresh rates with no other software oh dear, no display info was actually put into the panel before assembling into the headsets before shipping, a basic, absolute necessity for any display VR or not....I'm not sure if that's incompetence or some complete afterthought as to the PC connection.

not only is it unable to determine the res and refresh, its seeing the display as portrait, my head hurts from how many times I've banged it against the desk trying to get this addressed and acknowledged for the issues its causing behind the scenes.

while it ''could' flip and fix/ bodge/ make perceivably better with driver foolery, it isn't actually fixing the problem of display info missing and subsequently causing unstoppable errors and absolutely useless steam VR logs ( for tinkering/ enthusiasts like me this is an absolute ball ache- even worse if you were a developer!!! I'm trying to fix other problems and read what's going on but I simply can't because of the mess at the start, something so incredibly stupid it should never have left the factory like it)

Considering the only way to get another headset so soon would be to transfer and build upon existing work- especially with same chip involved.

if I see the same errors and reports in the new headset, its completely dead on arrival, sorry but its basic VR knowledge being missed by a huge VR company.

I hope pico read this, I'm all for the headset but for the love of god throw us a bone, it all started so well and now i'm talking to myself in the discord!

The bit about ByteDance collecting your data was funny I just hope no ban follows. I really can't wait to see the price of the Pico Neo Pro.

The big question will the pico 4 pro have OLED or QLED. If its standard lcd then thats a no go.

Display Port connection gives Pico the edge if they can deliver an otherwise comparable product.
If the pro model supports foveated rendering on PC then this will be a very exciting product and will be the go to headset until Deckard launches IMO.

decadent.

Thanks Mac! Just wanna say I like your pacing and presentation much better than the ones of my fellow german VR Youtubers. Just watched some Pico4 news on Sebastian's channel and yeah: many words, not much to say. I literally came here right after for a better presentation of the situation. Hope you can continue your work here, even with a, shall we say...restricted income!

Exciting times ahead . Great video, I'll not he diving in to buy any new headset having just purchased the quest 2 at the start of the year, but I'm hoping the release of these new headsets will place VR more in the public consciousness. I'm looking forward to the point in time when VR finally hits the mainstream and the leaps that will bring . That time does seem to be edging closer.

the problem, it's just not enough ... I mean, it's better, but same CPU/GPU. I like the advances so far, but, it really needs to be faster... like say a TB or storage? That way we can just hitup steam and d/l what we like. But, did I mention it needs to be 2~4 times faster so we don't need to teather a rtx 3060? It really remains to be seen weather the quest pro can make it happen. If it doesn't, I have no problem switching, especially, if Zuck thinks he's gonna start it out at 800 bucks. If that's the case, then I'll be really be looking at the pico 5 @ 5~600 dollars with hopefully a higher resolution, eye tracking and higher refresh rates. Hopefully we will get a third or fourth vr competitor to join the fun. I think the masses will be buying for price, speed and features. Steam has a great library already. So the software side is looking good. Also, if we can side load up quest games on the pico, that would be killer lol

I hope pico will introduce headsets at the price you suggest. Then this will prompt Meta to release cheaper versions of the pro for consumers.

competition is good and you can't expect them to catch up to occulus/meta so soon.
even if they're pretty much copying all of Meta's homework XD

Don't think Pico will put too much of a dent to Meta because Meta is more forward thinking, despite the issues I have with them, along with being innovative and have a better ecosystem. Pico so far seems like a Quest copy for PC gamers who don't want to support Meta. Pico needs to do a bit more but Pico is good for competition. The more companies push the more we get as consumers.

I think valve is either going to undercut metas october release with the announcement of their next gen headset, that or well get an announcement early to mid 2023 and get a release within the following six months, either way no headset will be able to compare for an affordable price, valve is too good at what they do and they have steam to back them up. Any wireless headset thats connected to your steam library will be an automatic winner, especially considering what improvements will be made on the already impressive index and its controllers.
