Got sum questions because people didn't get when it'd make sense to draw faces with the loomis method and when not - so here's a quick tutorial-ish video on that.

The Loomis method is a practical approach to drawing faces! It's a step-by-step technique for drawing creating realistic portraits. It's making drawing faces easier for artists of all levels. These are the basics of the Loomis method and they can improve your portrait drawing skills.

You can still use the loomies method for anime/cartoons if you move the lines. I never knew everyone was doing the same measurements every time. No wonder y’all suffer from same face syndrome. Great video Mickey!

The funny thing is that Loomis explains this in his book as well if I remember correctly. Anyways cool video Malte and late JoJo is definitely one of the best looking manga out there for these reasons. Early JoJo not so much

Thanks for the great video as always, I think we would all love a full Loomis tutorial, but I'd also appreciate a video on how to do wrinkles on clothes bc I always have a stroke while doing them

Yes! Loomis head method video would be really helpful. Also love the amount of effort in your videos! (especially considering you do them completely on your own. Super inspiring!).

Sir i have to thank you emphatically. I haven’t drawn in over 6 years. But due to my current circumstances I’ve had to find things to engage my brain. And because of you I’ve gotten back into art again. THANK YOU!

I’m not kidding when I say your tutorials are the best I’ve seen. I stopped drawing a few months ago and it’s been really difficult to get back into what once was my greatest source of happiness. Your tuts have been so helpful at helping me get back into anatomy, proportions, perspective and all sorts of other stuff! You’re very good at making efficient, easy to follow guides and I’m always learning something new on each video I click. Idk if this is a comment you get often, but I just wanted to show some appreciation for you and your channel :)

I'm sorry, but have You (and all the people who critique the Loomis method) actually read the Loomis book? Or have You just found some simple Loomis tutorial online and assumed that's all to it? Loomis was known for drawing all sorts of widely different characters both realistic and cartoonish using this method, because the whole goal of this method is it's flexibility. The proportions You showed were only meant to illustrate the "perfect proportions" but Loomis actually encouraged to look at people around and study their faces because everyone is different. Look at the page 38 of "Drawing the Head and Hands" and see how just by slightly modifying the template one can create any face imaginable (unless the style gets too simplified, then indeed the Loomis method might be an overkill).
