How To Draw Heads Using The Loomis Method

Drawing well proportioned heads consistently is a challenge for any beginning artist, and some us old pros sometimes too! There are a lot of different ways to approach head construction, but one of my favorites is the Loomis Method. In this video, we break down Andrew Loomis' head construction technique!

22:36 Getting comfortable drawing box in any perspective is so important before drawing loomis head, especially the centerlines of the box. Understanding space greatly helped me in getting the placement and angles of the facial features right. I was surprised how good I can get a head to look now with a bit of focus. Great video!

Thanks David. You're the best drawing teacher on this app I've seen so far. You explain it in a way that doesn't sound too methodical but yet you establish that there is a basic structure to it and you did this while trying not to sound to overly serious or comedic. You draw in motion that hints the direction of best fit of the lines before you decide on it which is what I think goes through the head of most of us while we try to draw anything. We're imagining it yet trying to draw exactly what we see to get the true perspective from our mind to the canvas. This was a very insightful video. Thank you so much.
