This is such a brilliant scene on so many levels. I think it is the best scene in the entire film. The costumes, the sets, the dialogue, the camera; all just perfection. Even the door to her building is evocative. Vanessa Shaw is just mesmerizing in this role. She really makes an impression on the viewer. Nobody can match Kubrick's talent.

I’m still trying to figure out why Kubrick chose to have this set right before Christmas. For me, Christmas has always been ethereal and dreamy. A time ppl like to spoil themselves and gather. Perhaps ppl feel more adventurous around the holidays.

This just shows what movie making is, not just shooting a film.
Kubrick sow the real quality in film making is time, concentrate on the story and acting.
That is what long term keeps a film great, compared to the 95% of films that a not so great.

Domino uses tasteful but very suggestive language to tempt him and to ultimately, successfully lure him “inside” but short of consummation because Alice has a 6th sense. Domino is so sensual and feminine. Her red door represents her divine feminine nether region IMHO. Inside is the end of the rainbow. 🌈

Kubrick has many arrows in his quiver, Clockwork orange is probably my favorite movie ever, but he never gets more mature than this

There is a scene in the movie when he came back home .. the moment he switch off the Christmas light tree .. there was the Christmas tree that's make him remember her when they were both in her apartment ..

I also don’t think she invited any customers to her home. There is a Hôtel right there as they walk. Of course Bill going to her home later proves to be an important plot point

I like this movie. But there are some things about it that drive me nuts.

Her: “Do you want to come inside?”
Him: “Do I want to come inside?”

Him: “What do you recommend?”
Her: “What do I recommend?”

This pattern of responding to a question by repeating the question that was just asked goes on throughout the entire film. In fact it happens so often that you go from not really noticing to the point where it’s impossible to focus on anything else, and soon when someone asks a question you just know it’s coming! And you’re totally like “oh god she’s gonna repeat the question back to him now isn’t she?” And sure enough that’s just what happens. It’s fucking maddening.
