How to Fix 2018 Macbook Pro Sound Crackling Issue

This is just a quick video on how to fix the sound crackling issue the new 2018 Macbook Pros have been having. Technically it's a workaround and will have to be done every time the issue occurs, but it's the easiest solution I've found until Apple releases a full firmware update to fix it!

Its June 2020. I just bought a 16" MBP directly from Apple, and I have occasional crackling. I thought they were going to patch the problem?

This did fix the issue for me just like advertised. I didn't find coreaudioid at first in my activity monitor, I just clicked back and forth on the tabs in the activity monitor window and it did show up after a few seconds. Clicked quit (visually it didn't do anything) but the crackling was gone immediately after.

Y'ALL, BE CAREFUL BEFORE TRYING THIS!

I tried this after waking up to a deafening cracking noise (I normally sleep with music on). Not sure what caused the audio issue...

After I did the steps in this video, my sound settings seemed to get completely wiped and I couldn't even access my internal speakers in the system settings - sound menu. They had completely disappeared as an input/output volume device. Trying to turn up the volume using the keys on my keyboard just brought up a grey "x" on the display.

I did some more googling, and resetting the "PRAM" is what finally fixed things for me. Turn off/back on the computer then press and hold 'command + alt/option + P + R' while you're computer is restarting until you get the 2nd apple on the display.

Just got the MacBook Pro, 2018 Edition for Christmas and I noticed crackling in my audio when having more than one application open. I'm wondering if this is an issue I will have to deal with the whole time I own this laptop. Kind of pisses me off that the amount of money this thing costs they can't seen to get the audio right...

Thanks for the tip! It seemed to work for me too, but after a few days it starts again.
If the problem has been known for 3 years, it's unlikely that a fix will ever be proposed ....

I have a macbook pro 2018 with Mojave 10.14.3 installed. It just started crackling and sadly, quiting the audiocore didn't work, neither did switching the frequency on Audio midi set up...

FYI - I had to click on the memory tab in Activity monitor to find 'coreaudio'
