I have been using Tentacles for a long time as a sound engineer. I have 4 that I can put on all kinds of audio or video recorders and feed all these little people with the same TC. Great.The issue is that as a sound engineer, it's very often not me who syncs all this, it's more of a videographer, or an image editor, or his assistant, or someone in a production.But all these people generally haven't invested in the Tentacle system, so they don't have the "Tentacle Sync Studio" software that allows all of this to be synchronized. Because to have the software, you have to buy a license (149 €), or buy a Tentacle box that will serve as a Dongle to authorize the software.So it is quite rare that the time saving and the potential precision of this workflow is used to the full in a pro setup with sound engineers and cameramen on set and other people in post production.People in post production tend to use TC's sync tools built into their image editing software (Avid, FCPX, Premiere, DaVinci ...) which work quite well, but often do not offer the speed, flexibility and simplicity of "Tentacle Sync Studio".And that's a shame, because we're not optimizing.Me, it's been years that I annoy the staff of Tentacle so that they understand that the workflow they propose could be perfect but that it has a plug, a wall, and that they should intelligently and commercially give this software for free, as do other firms that sell hardware and associated software. (SoundDevice for instance)It is because I notice that many editors, videographer, podcaster, production company do not want to invest 149 € in "Tentacle Sync Studio", often out of laziness, or for fear of changing their habits, that the interest of using CT everywhere is reduced, or even unnecessary. I even see videographers who prefer to use the internal clocks of their cameras and my magneto to do the sync by performing a manual sync of these clocks (3, 2, 1, Top) I don't know if you see the lack of precision that it generates. Pffff ...Either the post production department would have to invest 149 € in "Tentacle Sync Studio", or Tentacle should allow it to be used for free (or cheaper, like 20 €).I said.

Really awesome devices. I highly recommend to all videographers. You will save time and headache from synching in the plural eye program.
I have been using it for almost a year now and very happy with it.

It is true that on a shoot, the use of the Tentacle Set is very easy and efficient.
On the other hand, it is extremely common that the synchronization of video and audio rushes is carried out by an image editor or within a production company. As a sound engineer I never recover the video rushes, and so it's never me, the sound engineer, who does this synchronization.
The fact that the Tentacle Sync Studio software requires a limited license (or the presence of a tentacle set plugged into a USB port) to function, no image editor or production acquires this license because they do not need the Tentacle Set in their workflow.
Thus, in a professional workflow, nobody takes advantage of this synchronization software, video editors use the functions built into Avid, FCPX or Premiere to synchronize.

I say it very clearly, the Tentacle sync Studio licensing policy is ineffective, unnecessary, stupid.

How is their commercial policy to give this software away for free?
This would not at all preclude the need for sound engineers or freelance videographers to purchase Tentacle sets.

For example, Sound Device provides free Wave Agent software to manage metadata of sounds recorded with their recorder. It's smart and it doesn't prevent having to buy their recorders.

They have already replied that no one else has found fault with this policy, but I repeat it clearly and with a solid experience now, few actors of the pro video sector use Tentacle Sync Studio because of this restriction, so few production companies know the Tentacle brand and benefit from the advantages it offers.

Can I split the signal coming out of the tentacles sink into left and right so I can keep the left channel for time code and let the right channel just die coming out of the sink and then on the input side going into my DSLR or mirror less I have the left channel from the time code coming in and the right channel I would use for high-quality audio. Will that work?
