You might be asking, why are making another lard rendering video? Well we have now found a way that is so much more safe, quick, and easy that we had to share it with you. Using a large roaster is a great way to render enough lard for months to come. Also remember that just because you may not have pork on your property, you are likely able to get all you want from a near by butcher!! All you have to do is ask and you have nothing to lose.

I like to grind the fat before rendering it, it renders much faster. I use cast iron dutch ovens, multitasking, helps my ovens and renders the lard at the same time. I use lard for anything that calls for Crisco or shortening. I haven't used anything but lard for years. After all of the lard is rendered I mix the remaining pieces of fat with mixed grains and legumes, put it in loaf pans and freeze it to feed my chickens in the winter for extra calories.
