Just bear in mind that the type of official test might differ depending on where you're from.

I’m just so mad. About a year ago, I researched about my problems and found that most of them are symptoms of ADHD. The more I researched about it, the more I resonated with it. That’s it. I felt so relieved. My struggles finally have a name.

So, I literally prepared a „presentation“ to tell my doctor what I’m going through. I practiced exactly what I will say and how I will do it so that my doctor would take me seriously. I did everything I could, payed close attention to my wording. Yet still, before I could even properly start she interrupted my „performance“ and basically told me that I’m just a teenage freak who thinks they have every disease and go to the doctor because we have nothing better to do. (verbally and nonverbally) The moment I mentioned ADHD, she said "NOPE, there’s no way you have it! Don’t even think about that!“

She made me feel so ashamed of "walking into her office without a valid reason." She made me feel so ashamed of myself. She completely gaslighted me. I started doubting myself about this and felt stupid for literally showing up for my own health and searching for help.

I gaslighted myself after that. Until now that I remembered how accurately ADHD describes me and how heard I felt when I discovered it. I’m about to pursue a formal diagnosis again.
I got a new doctor. Hopefully I’ll get at least the opportunity to explain my problems and how they are affecting my life. Hopefully she will listen. But if she won’t, I’ll find someone who does.

I’m sorry if anyone else is going through a similar situation. You are not alone, we’re walking this road together! Please, never let others make you doubt your own feelings, struggles, trauma or pain. Only you know how it is like, not them. They will never truly know what you are experiencing, but they will not no a thing if they don’t even try to listen. And if they don’t listen, find someone who will. They do exist. And you will find them.

May you live a happy and fulfilled live that you deserve.
Much love.

I saw an ADHD psychiatrist on phycology today and the session took around 1 hour. I was also able to start a non addictive meditation ( I have inattentive ). Its safe to say that was easier than I thought but at the same time it's important to see a therapist as well for actual therapy.

I wish I could get the support you had. Told my mother about my symptoms of ADD, and she told me to pray it away. Went to see a mental health doctor on my own (government-funded), and she refused to give me a diagnosis because, according to her, I've managed my condition much better than others and an ADD diagnosis would have an impact on my insurance in the future. So now I'm stuck in limbo, not really sure of what to make of anything, and medicating myself with youtube videos lol

I'm worried that when I finally get to the assesment, they'll say no. Because I (nearly) have a PhD, pretty high functioning, and I've naturally developed all the common coping skills and I'm hella good at masking. I also feel like 'im not that bad - it doesn't effect me TOO much'

Also! My mum's memory is terrible, and I have no school records anymore. And my memory is sketchy. Any advice? TIA

The first time I brought adhd up to a psychologist he disregarded me asked asked very LITTLE INFO (2 weeks ago)

The second time this psychologist brought it up to me instead of me bringing adhd up to her and I have 3 more sessions to attend to really find out

I was given the questionnaire to do before I saw the psychiatrist... I was still finishing it off once I was in his office. Apparently that was the first red flag!

I am most of time inattentive, but when I am in public places: I am a daydreamer and zoning out a lot. But when I am by myself or with company which I feel to be safe with: I am hyperactive

Psychs don't like to diagnose or deal with people that have adhd as adults but weren't diagnosed then at all. They give you the runaround and tell you that it's not likely cause this is detected when you're in school or as a kid

I dont understand the need for it to be present before 12 years old. In females symptoms can present very differently than males. Females are also more likely to have "hidden" symptoms to prevent their peers from thinking differently of them.
Although I understand that around 12 hormones are changing and symptoms of that can mask or look like adhd.
It just really bothers me that people say symptoms have to had been present or noticeable before age 12.

I'm 25 and just been diagnosed with ADHD this afternoon, feels like a huge weight has been lifted and I'm looking forward to seeing how medication will affect me. I live in the UK too but decided to go private as the NHS seems like a waste of time for this.

Love this channel. My doctor referred me last sept 2019 I phoned up to see why I'd not heard anything ..only to be told its 3.5 year waiting list on my NHS. I asked the dr to give me a letter of referral togo private and she refused. While the next fews years I live in chaos with bought of depression and anxiety. Wishing you all a faster better service where you are!

In Finland the doctors give you antidepressants one after another, because in here it's the fix all-medicine. I got my first description at age 15, the session lasted half an hour, max. I was once said "This antidepressant will work with ADHD symptoms" by a doctor. She didn't take me seriously enough to get me actually tested for ADHD. Some people need antidepressants, but they really describe it like candy. I've tried 10 different medications through the years. Still the possibility of me suffering from ADHD and not depression to a general doctor is like arguing with a wall. They even describe antidepressants if you suffer from back pain.

I got on the NHS waiting list for an adult ADHD screening. Waited 2 month as instructed, chased for an update and they told me my application never arrived and I wasn't on the waiting list at all: the mental health team blamed the GPs, and vice versa. Re-applied, waited another month and was told that they're not currently accepting new applications. This was just before the Dawn Of Covid.

I'm glad the NHS approach worked for you. I despise it. Private screenings are expensive (somewhere around £500) but I'm gonna save my pennies and pay the price just to avoid being fucked around for months on end with no guarantee of actual access to care.

I‘m convinced that I have AD(H)D, as nearly every described symptom fits, but when I went to an specialized facility for adhd diagnostics and got tested, they told me that there was no major indication for adhd. However, after nearly 2, 5 years of treating a major depression with various antidepressants my psychiatrist prescribed bupropion, which can be used for treating adhd.
