She is right. I have Lynch Syndrome and the diagnosis literally saved my life. I have a family history of early colon cancer and my diagnosis prompted a colonoscopy which found a foot long tumor in my colon that I had no idea was there. I wouldn't be alive today if it wasn't for that test, as I was only 39 when that happened. I've told my extended family to get tested but they say the same thing as these other commenters- they don't have the money to waste, etc. But getting the diagnosis means that (if you have insurance) you'll have a medical team keeping close eye on your health. Trust me, surgery, cancer treatment and funeral costs are MUCH more than a $1000 genetic test
