Archival footage shot by an amateur filmmaker while touring the USA in the summer of 1977, likely in early July.

It contains stock footage of New York: people walking on Broadway, Avenue of the Americas, sightseeing tour helicopter landing, Manhattan views from the helicopters windows, panoramas from the GE Building of Rockefeller Center, African American policeman checking inside a man's bag, Goodyear airship, panoramas from a sightseeing boat tour (Twin Towers, Brooklyn Bridge, United Nations Headquarters), life in the streets of Chinatown, Rockefeller Center, Winston cigarettes billboard, billboards in the night, and more.

Please comment if you recognize more subjects.

There's nothing amateurish about many of these films, whomever is shooting the footage knew what they were doing. A lot of what's seen in these films are the same buildings and landmarks, I'd prefer to see more street scenes with people.

1:15 "Travolta" before Travolta! Or maybe it's The Real Thing, having a lunch break in Manhattan before heading out to 2001 Odyssey in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn for more filming? This was filmed in the summer of '77. Saturday Night Fever was released on December 16, 1977.

The summer when Sam terrorized the city and the blackout lead to madness. Must’ve been one hell of a time to be living in NYC.

Just for context, the movie showings featuring The Deep and Sorcerer at Loews State, Rocky at Embassy and Black Sunday at Victoria date this video to sometime between July 1- July 14, 1977. Given the news events of the 13th and 14th, I'm going to guess this was more likely from the first week of July.

I was 15 y/o and attended Harren H.S. WQTU was the Disco station then. "STAR WARS " was out. Polito Vega was my favorite PR 🇵🇷 Radio DJ (WBNX 1380am). NO INTERNET...😄

Cool, cool, cool... at least as long as you air-condition such black and other dark buildings enough, which absorb a big part of the light arriving on them. I fear that many of the dark buildings here shown have _not_ yet been air-conditioned when the footage has been made.
