Footage of NYC, 1970's - Clips from The Kino Library.

Song: Kool & the Gang, Street Corner Symphony (1974).

Thank you Craig and the Kino Library for inspiring me to create this!

I edited this video to roughly show what New York City was like in the 1970s. I’ve always been fascinated by the 1970s and New York City. I paired the clips with Kool & the Gang’s upbeat song Street Corner Symphony to reflect the visuals. Featuring some landmark scenes of the city ~ from the skyscrapers to the trains and the bridges. I tried to capture the vibe of the city in those times.
Do you have any memories of New York City during the 1970s? Please share them below! I read your comments and appreciate any feedback.

*Some have pointed out that some clips are from the 80s. good catch & thanks for watching!

Love the vintage NYC. I was born in the late 70's and can remember as a kid how the city was so run down, but we didn't know any better and accepted it as normal and we made the best of it...

I was 40 years old in 1970 and I will say it was the best decade of my entire life, I married to a beautiful wife in 1956 after enlisting in the US Navy, she sadly passed last October, we used to live a 2 bedroom apartment right in New York City back in the early 70’s, now I’m a retired 92 year old veteran and many things have changed from then to now and I hope I make to be one of the oldest individuals in the planet. Thank you!

My mom and dad met at JFK airport in 1970 and I was born in 1972. Born and raised in NY was such a wonderful memory with my parents that were so young and loving. They worked hard and were very determined to provide for me and my siblings. They are still married, and I couldn't be more blessed to have them in good health. Thank you for sharing this video! ❤️

This is probably the most "1970s" video I have ever seen. The images, the music, the vibe. Feel like going back in time. Great video!

Native New Yorker here. Born in 1971. Big cars. Big boom boxes. Open Johnny pumps. Summer in the city❤

I loved the early 70's when every cop & detective tv show had this music.

I saw Led Zeppelin in 1973 at MSG.
I was only 17. Hooked up with a girl there called Sarah.
Dated her for a while, then proposed 2 years later at another Led Zeppelin concert in 1975.

Still married to this day. These images bring back a lot of memories.
Life goes by too quick.
One minute you’re young and then you’re nearly dead.

Born in 1964 and grew up in the 70s and early 80s in NJ in a NYC suburb. Remember both decades very well.

The seventies and eighties were a golden age. The American auto industry is simply wonderful. Respect from Russia.

Man, New York in the 70s, London in the 60s, Miami in the 80s, Los Angeles in the 50s....if only I had a time machine.

Kool & the Gang can make literally anything awesome. You could fall into a dumpster and if a boombox was inside the dumpster playing Kool & the Gang, you'd be like, "I'm having a good time."

I grew up in NYC in the 60s and 70s. Using KOOL & The Gang's "Street Corner Symphony" as background music is just perfect for the grit and rhythm of NYC for the time. I was getting back there often, but not so much anymore. I miss the great pizza, Chinese Food, smell, tempo, and vibe of my city. Thanks for the memories.

People back in the 70's had a future ahead, they were optimistic. Nowadays, only the millionaires and billionaires have a future, the rest of the country is depressed.

Awesome, I grew up in NYC in the 70s. As dirty and gritty as it was it was still an amazing place. By the way, I still live here and it’s never been as vibrant as it was in the 70s.

And I love the 1970’s music we have here. It gives you a sense of feeling of what the 70’s were about back then.
