My old orchestra teacher in middleschool told us she loves video games, not because she plays them, but because they help keep classical music composition profitable.

They are actually singing in a fictional language that Bethesda came up with.

Worth noting that the song is also sung entirely in the Elder Scrolls universe's own dragon language.
Really awesome and very in-line with Elder Scroll's impressive dedication to its universe and lore.

This song is simultaneously an ode, a legend, a call to arms and a prophecy.

This is one of the only songs that'll give me goosebumps everytime I listen to it. Maybe it's time for another Skyrim session.

11 years and countless shameless rereleases later and that original trailer is still the most hype, goosebump inducing thing I've ever seen.

for a bit of context the lyrics are in game lore/an epic poem in Dovah, the tong of dragons:

(Chorus) (Chorus)
Dovahkiin, Dovahkiin, naal ok zin los vahriin, Dragonborn, Dragonborn, by his honor is sworn,
Wah dein vokul mahfaeraak ahst vaal! To keep evil forever at bay!
Ahr fin norok paal graan fod nust hon zindro zaan, And the fiercest foes rout when they hear triumph's shout,
Dovahkiin fah hin kogaan mu draal! Dragonborn, for your blessing we pray!

Huzrah nu, kul do od, wah aan bok lingrah vod, Hearken now, sons of snow, to an age, long ago,
Ahrk fin tey, boziik fun, do fin gein! And the tale, boldly told, of the one!
Wo lost fron wah ney dov, ahrk fin reyliik do jul, Who was kin to both wyrm, and the races of man,
Voth aan suleyk wah ronit faal krein! With a power to rival the sun!

Ahrk fin zul, rok drey kod, nau tol morokei frod, And the voice, he did wield, on that glorious field,
Rul lot Taazokaan motaad voth kein! When great Tamriel shuddered with war!
Sahrot Thu'um, med aan tuz, bey zeim hokoron pah, Mighty Thu'um, like a blade, cut through enemies all,
Ol fin Dovahkiin Komeyt ok rein! As the Dragonborn issued his roar!

(Chorus) (Chorus)

Ark fin Kel lost prodah, do ved viing ko fin krah, And the Scrolls have foretold, of black wings in the cold,
Tol fod zeymah win kein meyz fundein! That when brothers wage war come unfurled!
Alduin, feyn do jun, kruziik vokun staadnau, Alduin, Bane of Kings, ancient shadow unbound,
Voth aan bahlok wah diivon fin lein! With a hunger to swallow the world!

Nuz aan sul, fent alok, fod fin vul dovah nok, But a day, shall arise, when the dark dragon's lies,
Fen kos nahlot mahfaeraak ahrk ruz! Will be silenced forever and then!
Paaz Keizaal fen kos stin nol bein Alduin jot, Fair Skyrim will be free from foul Alduins maw,
Dovahkiin kos fin saviik do muz! Dragonborn be the savior of men!

(Chorus) (Chorus)

What you may not know is this music is played during dragon fights and the low rumble you hear as the theme song quiets down mimics the dragon's soul leaving it and going to the protagonist.Always thought that was a nice little touch. The dragon is dead, quiet returns.

Jeremy Soule is one of the best game music composers in my opinion. His work is legendary

Skyrim especially leans on the importance of Shouts. Thematically the game is about the power of voice and magic in shouts or Thuum as they refer to it. Dragons don’t breath fire, ice and lightning. It is their Thuum that “cast” the magic.
The vocal arrangements are meant to evoke the power in shouting. The language is canonical to the lore as well.

…now do Halo.

As the main menu theme that plays every time you start the game, the first 10 to 30s of the song has likely been played and listened to tens of billions of times.

Fun Fact: The entire music is sang in a language created by the creators of the game, this language is based on a mix of latin/english in kind of a "runic" format.

You should react to this wholes game's ost, one of the most beautiful osts in videogames

Man, the first time you fight a Dragon and this song starts, makes you feel like such a BADASS!
Also the vocals are sang in "Dovahzul" (Dragon Language), which is a whole language they made for the game.
The Elder Scrolls in general shine with their music! Morrowind, Oblivion, Skyrim. There is real love, dedication and talent put into music in these games!

You should really compare this theme to the ones from Elder Scrolls III "Morrowind", and Elder Scrolls IV "Oblivion", because the underlying theme is the same, just arranged completely differently each time. Jeremy Soule really does a wonderful job switching things up.

It's interesting that the song is both an orchestral telling of the story inside the game, and a in-universe contextual piece of lore. It is sung in a conlang created for the game, and it's really about you, the player, and your role as the Dovahkhiin. Born Hunter of Dragonkind, protector of Skyrim.

The choir I was in in college did this song once. We even brought drums and brass for an accompaniment. Nothing compares to being part of it live!

All these years. Countless times hearing it. And this music still gets my heart pounding and I'm right back in Skyrim. Between the soundtrack, and all the gobsmackingky amazing mods out there, I can't see me ever not playing this game.

Honestly, the entire Elder Scrolls sountrack is amazing.

The beauty of it is the section from 6:45 to 7:07. That is actually the theme from Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, a previous entry in the series, and it is called "Nerevar Rising". Check it out some time.
