The entire Jojo's Bizarre Adventure series is filled with good music and references to music. The main villain for multiple seasons is named Dio and the first season the outro song is Roundabout by Yes.

These big compositions for anime are typically "Inserts", where the song plays only during particular impactful moments and tends to be a fair bit more forward than normal OST.

6:08 Fun fact: JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure is a series that references music for character names, and Santana is actually one of those name references!

As the 'JoJo' guy, I appreciate you giving this a listen. Truly a masterpiece of a song! Hope the rest of the OST makes it your way sometime :)

To your comment about how video games and anime expose people to genres they never would've been exposed to otherwise: Absolutely. You couldn't be more right about that. Video games and anime as a medium are unafraid of experimentation, and they really help broaden our horizons in many ways.

Giorno is part 5's main character and the story is set in Italy. It is basically the world's longest anti drug commercial and it's my favourite part 😂

I love these videos so much, it’s such a joy seeing someone from an outside perspective listen to the wonders of these songs you don’t hear on the radios

To answer the quick question at the end, "first person" is when your eyes are the same as the character you are controlling, while "third person" is when you can see your character on the screen moving around, as if there was a cameraman following it.

What you said about people who enjoy anime and video games being exposed to a wider variety of music is so incredibly true. I find so much modern music to sound exactly the same. But as amazing as this music is on its own, I almost feel like part of what makes it *truly* special is experiencing it as a part of the full package. Watching the song play during an emotional or empowering moment that you’ll always be reminded of whenever you re-listen to it.

Of course, you’ll often be too distracted by what’s going on on-screen to fully appreciate the song at the time. That’s why I like to experience this kind of music both with and without the context. First experience as part of the show or game so I have can establish that emotional connection to a specific moment or feeling, then on its own to appreciate the entirety of the composition on its own merits, all while still being able to draw on those memories of my first experience.

JoJo in particular is imo a love letter to fashion, action, and music and then amps it to an 11. A lot of the "spirits" or Stands as they call it are named after bands and songs.

The range of music is everywhere. And they make it a point to flex the different genres. The love for music is there and they make it a point to make sure every second of the music has something to add.

Great cover btw, and I'm hoping you are enjoying your journey into the anime/game verse of song!

There are a number of anime shows out there with fantastic music scoring. JoJo's is known for it, as the creator of the series uses the soundtrack he listens to while working to influence his work. Several characters are named after songs/artists/albums. From the first series alone, you meet Baron Zeppeli, Robert E.O. Speedwagon, and Dio, and the list just goes and goes from there.

I love the talk you had at the end of the video, I completely agree with you! When I was younger, video game (and then later anime) music were very near and dear to me, then as I got older I started playing an instrument so I got further immersed in music as a whole. Since then it feels like both mediums have just expanded on each other for me since one helps me appreciate the other even more

Jojo's Bizarre Adventure started as a manga (comic) that started originally in 1987, and is still being written/published to this day. It is divided into multiple "parts" with each part covering a different character, time period and geographical region: the original Jojo takes place in the 1890s in England, the second part takes place in the 1930s in Italy, the third in the 1980s in the Middle East, etc. The author just started up Part 9, to give some context for how long this thing has been going on.

And, unsurprisingly, each part is also musically distinct. This song comes from Part 5, which takes place in the early 2000s, so it takes a lot of hints from hip-hop and other musical genres popular at the time. Of course, it also has that certain flair that you can find in a lot of Jojo music, which you may understand more as you hear more of the songs from it.

Loved this reaction. This is one of my favorite anime songs and I'm glad you appreciate it. Rock on brother!

I recently found out that not only show refers to popular music but also its soundtrack does. I myself recognized intro from "Owner of a lonely heart" by Yes in Taku Iwasaki's "Welcome to the world" and there's also "Jaws" main motive in Yugo Kanno's "Shark". There definitely is much more to discover, so I would like if you listen to at least the most popular and recognizable OST of this.

JJBA is in a nutshell a generational piece about a bloodline of heroes battling evil across the eras, except it simultaneously both takes itself seriously and is extremely wacky and dialed up to 11 all over.

Each season, or "part", is almost like a completely different show:

Part 1 "Phantom Blood" - Family Drama and Vampires in England
Part 2 "Battle Tendency" - Nazis vs Vampires in Europe
Part 3 "Stardust Crusaders" - Road Trip to Egypt
Part 4 "Diamond is Unbreakable" - Small Town Murder Mystery in Japan
Part 5 "Golden Wind" - Italian Gangsters
Part 6 "Stone Ocean" - Prison Drama in America

Hope you do "Stardust Crusaders" (also known as "Jotaro's Theme") from JoJo's Bizarre Adventure also! Personally, it's my favorite track of the entire series and I think it's a fantastic listen for any composer to check out!
