Japanese Players Will Parry Everything in Street Fighter 6

In the past, the Japanese and Asian scenes have been far ahead of the rest of the world in terms of controller optimization. This is what sparked the whole hitbox = "cheatbox" debate last year. With the upcoming release of Street Fighter 6, they are once again ahead of the game with leverless controllers. Because of how important drive impact and parry are going to be, the physical location of the buttons on your controller could mean everything. Nephew explains all of this in detail and a possible workaround in this video.

Street Fighter 6, the next game in the iconic series, will release in 2023! Take part in the Fighting Ground, which focuses on the classic fighting game experience with modes from previous games in the series. Two new modes will be available alongside: World Tour, an immersive single-player story experience, and Battle Hub, which will further expand the scope of player communication and engagement. Your Moment. Your Fight.

Another thing you can try is instead of having the parry and drive impact as the right-most two buttons (L1 and L2), set them as the left-most 2 non -direction buttons (square and X).

Slide the rest of the buttons to the right, and now you can just play normally but with quicker pointer finger access to parry and DI

I think moving one button from the 4th column to the thumb is just smart. I always felt that the 4th column is less accessible with your weak pinky and i press these buttons less as a result.

Cool that you came up with new "tech" pre release LOL. Very smart to utilize the input priority system to keep your right hand available for everything. Personally, I'm a sanwa lever/6 button layout boomer so I'll be fine just using my middle finger for MP+MK and ring finger for HP+HK. Been doing the same thing for the universal actions in SF3/4/5 and I'll just boomer it up more lol.

I did the same thing when I first got to play 6, so we're gonna have to split royalties on the layout patent. the default layout immediately felt backwards to me in regards to those two buttons when I first played, to the point I thought my controller was configured wrong until I realized it was supposed to be like that.

Clever! Definitely doing this. Just got a 400 dollar custom hitbox and seeing the extra button controllers gives me a lot of buyer's remorse. This will do the trick for a while!

I simply moved my punches and kicks over to the right one, and then moved the final column inputs to the front set of buttons. That means drive impact and drive parry are accessible with my pointer finger and thumb

I think it's great that the system is not only flexible but that also works really well on a pad, which is how 99% of players will be playing even if almost none of the pros are.

Having a 10 button layout using a fight pad will be really useful

Yo! Thanks for explaining this, Neph. I was confused as hell when I saw the pic of his layout. Guess it's time to whip out the hole saw and dive into the old box o' buttons.

For the longest time I thought some of these innovative controllers were cool, but lately I've been thinking all of these 11 button boxes are getting really ugly

I actually stopped playing with my arcade stick and switched to pad (which I hate playing with lol) because I couldn't get comfortable using the last button for parry. Your setup works perfectly! I wish I had watched your video earlier. Thanks a lot.

smart. I was parrying with both mediums & wasn't using the parry button at all because of its location. the Nephew layout seems like a great fix!

The JP player controllers reminds me of my Frame1, which has a remappable right thumb cluster for smash. It's very useful to have action buttons spread out among all of your fingers.

Genius. I will be using the Nephew tech from here on out. Thanks man.

I switched parry and DI on my stick the moment I started playing the beta. Mostly because of drive rush.

If having more than 8 non-directional buttons that all have unique functions isn’t already illegal then what is capcom even doing

I don’t think having a standardized layout is necessary though

For the past 10 years we have moved towards what is basically a keyboard-styled controller with a Spacebar button. It is funny considering that 10 years ago FG players said that keyboard is bad and stick is the norm
