Been retired for a while now but back in the day we would angle the torch so we had less prep with a grinder and put a nice bevel on there and lay in a 5P root and a 7018 cap. On old drill pipe i would use a scarfing tip to cut the bevel and clean up with a grinder.

I always held my torch plumb and cut all at once. Less grinding
A chopsaw works wonders- 45° cuts and take half of the points off

Good job ! I do my saddles with a portable bandsaw these days up to 3” works great for me you do have to knock the ears off about a 1/4” but no grinding

Nice torch work but I would still clean that up with a grinder. I like using a die grinder with a coarse drum sander to clean up the inside after you get the slag out of the middle

For those who can't figure out how to do a saddle, A pie cut works just as good.

That procedure means you are welding the knife edges.
When you have to knife edge to get fit up your trying to fit to tight to centerline of the pipe your branching on
