if you are looking for a protective dog to keep watch on you and your family in my opinion the Giant Schnauzer makes a wonderful loyal gaurd dog

I met a woman's female Giant Schnauzer the other day and she was the sweetest, most beautiful, dog with the softest black coat. What an honor to pet her and she even gave me a kiss. Shortly after, we had to put our wonderful Boxer down and, although I'm still mourning, I am considering one of these. I have a friend whose mother breeds these and I may talk to her when I'm ready....

The best thing that makes the schnauzer better than other protection breeds is that the schnauzer does not shed hair. 👍👍

My Giant Schnauzer, Osiris, is my BABY. He's so extremely loyal and loving it's insane. He's proven to be protective in a few scary situations while hiking (best hiking buddy ever) and is my judge on people who randomly come into my life. When i know they shouldn't be trusted, he'll be very cautious around the person and will keep his body in front of me the whole time. It really blows my mind at the mindfulness and human like emotions he gives me. He'll be 2 years old March 7th, he's the best dog I've ever owned. He seems to know when I'm anxious or sad and will come and give me his security and love. 🖤 He's so gentle with my kids and very protective of them as well.
If you own a Giant Schnauzer, then you know what I mean!

I have a Black Russian Terrier and a Giant Schnauzer. She is a great dog. Very protective of the property. The BRT protects us. My GS is very active and affectionate. She is 4 now and still a puppy. She needs about 2 hours a day of romping in the backyard. I have heard that GS are aloof and required a proper greeting, but ours loves everyone that comes through the door. She wags her tail and is so happy to see any visitor. The Black Russian requires that proper greeting before he accepts someone in the house.

I miss my giant so much. He was great protection when people first saw him but he would only have licked them to death. Fantastic, deep, loud guard bark. He loved running in the leash free and going for hikes. He behaved best when he had to earn his rewards. He loved learning. Right on with your comments about training. See you in heaven Blitz.

I work with an older Giant Schnauz (dog boarding) and a lot of my coworkers dislike him because he is so excited to see people and rowdy but if you spend the right amount of time with him and let him be by your side, he is a perfect angel and makes me feel safe (i work overnight)

My grandparents had a miniature Schnoz. Feisty lady, scary intense watchdog. Good job she wasn't any bigger, would have been deadly. She loved Gramma to no end, and Grandad gave her the best name ever: Schnapps.

A friend of mine is a police dog handler. He said the toughest jobs by far are to calm down rioting football-hooligans. And the easiest way to achieve is launching a Giant Schnauzer unit.

Genetics matter .

Delaware State Police imported about 13 of them in the 90s and sent all but 2 back bc they were toooo much dog for the new K9 Handlers. One that stayed is featured on The Real Stories of the Highway Patrol . K9 Bandit, he was shot in the front leg and still ran about 100 yards and apprehended the suspect. I owned Motomo, who's sire was Ax von den kiwi, who was imported from Germany as a retired Border Patrol dog. Super intelligent dogs with everlasting energy and stamina. Miss my guy big time. He was 79#'s of solid muscle . Athletic as heck. I only let him do this once bc it tears up their shoulders but, I saw him jump a 7 foot vertical wall. My fellow handlers nicknamed him "Mottsinator" bc he was so intense during protection training.

I own a 3 year old Male Giant. Extremely important NOT to over exercise them when they are young pups and growing up. To protect their joints and bones while growing. Roughly 5 minutes per month of age and no more. (Per day that is). They have huge amounts of energy but you have to limit it. You have to PARENT them. They take upto 3 years to mature which is longer than a lot of breeds. A lot of skin problems can be down to diets. We feed ours on raw food and have had zero health problems. Do some research. He looks magnificent and is as strong as an ox. Love my dog to bits. Now that he is grown up he needs huge amounts of exercise and your attention. Easily 2 hours a day of walks. He's like Velcro and wants to be with me all the time. Every time we go out people stop us, literally every time. He's that handsome.

All schnauzers are great I have a mini! They are the best! Minis are great watch dogs. They are very wary about strangers. He’s a good judge of character.

Love my giant schnauzer! She is such an amazing guard dog that loves to swim and even loves being groomed. HIGHLY RECOMMEND this breed if you’re looking for a guard dog that is so very loyal and just loves their family with their whole heart. I will definitely be getting another.
