Growing Gummy Bears

In today’s experiment we have one of our volunteers, Isabel, show us how to grow gummy bears through osmosis by using treated water. When a gummy bear is placed in each cup of water (one regular, one with salt, one with vinegar), and left overnight, we see that they grow in varying sizes! This process of osmosis can be seen when fingers get wrinkled/prune-like when you have been in the water for a long period of time. For this experiment you will need: 3 clear cups, water to fill, 1 tbsp salt, 1 tbsp vinegar, and gummy bears. You can skip ahead to 0:31 get started!

Interesting. I’d have liked to seen three identical bears instead of different colored ones to rule out any possible interferences from the dyes. Thank you.

I don't understand the osmosis with the hand wrinkling. If more water was able to permeate our skin, then shouldn't our hands and fingers swell instead of sorta deflate?🤔🤔🤔🤔🤪😜
