But that poor girl,

You will do your duty.

You are a mean bastard, that's your problem. You've no love in you. You can talk sweet as you like to Niobe, it won't do you any good. She won't believe a word.

I love Vorenus. "The Gods are in no hurry, they will take their time in tormenting us".

The adventures of Lucius Vorenus and Titus Pullo should be its very own HBO series

Vorenus: "What's in the wagon?"
(proceeds to kill all those on the wagon over the issue, doesnt check what's in the wagon)
5 minutes later Pullo: "Let's check what's in that wagon"
Vorenus "Not our concern".

Even though the republic had functionally ceased to exist, it still existed legally. The pretenses of the republic for kept up for a few hundreds of years even though they were ruled by emperors. During the first hundreds of the empire, the emperor wasn't really viewed like a ''king'' per see but more of a strong man and an autocratic executive.

Reassemble this fantastic cast to remake I, Claudius!

Are the cavalry attached to them Caesar's German Guard or Batavians? Caesar immediately integrated the Batavian horsemen into his army because their talent was that they could cross rivers by hanging on to the horse's saddle while swimming alongside. Quite useful for hitting the enemy where he doesn't expect it.

In my opinion, the Republic’s gradual fall began with the defeat of Carthage (Mediterranean hegemony) & Lusitania (Western / Atlantic hegemony). With no major external wars left to wage, the aristocracy ripped each other to shreds until a new Imperial system emerged from Augustus.

I’m no fan of authoritarianism, but the show / historians from then make it known that the “Republic” had long since fallen. The whole Sulla incident was likely the final factor that tipped the scale.

Why is Vorenus acting like this is an unprecedented event? Didn't Sulla march his armies on Rome like 30 years earlier? Caesar and Pompey's civil war was just another chapter in the civil wars that were plaguing the late republic.

I feel for Vorenus. If this happened to the United States I would be just as morose, especially if I was somehow complicit in the overthrowing of democracy.

This shows how stupid HBO is there is no way a rank and file legionary would have spoken to a centurian which was the equivalent in today's armies of a lieutenant or captain.Such behavior by a ordinary legionary would have been classed as insubordination leading to such a legionary being severely punished no matter how well he was known to his superiors namely the centurian.Punishments could be having to eat the worst rasions or flogging for minor infractions up to the death penalty for the worst offences.
