Technically a starter is electric, not electronic if that makes sense

12V is basically nuke-proof. It won’t miraculously prevent a nuke from wiping it from existence, but if a nuke should go off at a distance that prevents most digital equipment from doing their jobs, the 12v will start and run just fine.

I am retired now but I had first contact with this engine when it was known as a "Consolidated Diesel", it was a joint development with Cummins and JI Case, done to replace Case's older series of engines.

I have to agree with you on that one the 6bt is one of the toughest diesel engines out there! It has been swapped into just about everything because of its well known performance. It's no stretch to call it the LS of diesel engines! It's a little sad they are getting hard to find though, because lots of us got a lot of cashola pulling em out of old buses and stuff and doing a direct swap for truckers.

The reason there so good is quality parts to begin with heavy duty and mechanically simple and made to be rebuilt.

Agree worked on big heavy industrial forklifts. I can’t tell you the amount of 12 valve 6bts I serviced every six months and they ran everyday all day moving materials non stop 24 hours a day. They just kept it topped off with rotella t4. Aww the good old days. Come think of it never replaced an injector in one. In 3 years.

I’m most definitely in agreement with you man. That’s by far my Favorite engine.
I have Gen 1, 2, 3 and 4 so far.
I love each of them for different reasons, and yes they 6.7 is the oddball in comparison to the 5.9. But it’s still a Cummins….. and anything Cummins is good. They don’t put out junk.

I got the 6bt. Broken exhaust manifold ear on head. Killer dowl pin and crankshaft seal sleeve. Its a awesome engine overall.

Reminds me of my 1991 Passat with the idi. One wire operation (fuel solenoid)

Also inline 6 is probably the most reliable engine configuration whether gas diesel or anything else.

That db2 fuel pump is in everything! I needed one fixed for 81 diesel olds but no one would touch it!

I like your videos, just so you know the 24 valve is a ISB!

Exactly why you see many people engine swap with Cummins, mainly a 12valve.
I have my grandpas gen1 and gen 2, no rust at all. Straight from Texas and both 4x4💪🏼
Just finished building my 5th gen 12 valve swap. (If you know, you know)

There is a gentleman on YouTube that has converted a 24-valve to mechanical injection
