Business Class on my LEAST FAVORITE Airline / Ethiopian Airlines

Ethiopian Airlines, you guys know, I am NOT a fan... That being said, I sometimes HAVE to use their services depending on what country I need to go to. After all, Ethiopian Airlines is the airline with the most destination within Africa.

After many BAD experiences with this "The New Spirit of Africa" as they like to call themselves and by that I mean, terrible food, flight delays and planes which are literally falling apart, I decided to threat myself with a Business Class ticket.

Because I refused to pay almost $4,000CAD for the full trip in Business Class, there and back, I simply booked all my flights Economy and then made an offer to be upgraded on the longest flight.
Long story short, I flew from Nairobi, Kenya to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia in Economy Class and from there I flew Business Class (after of course visiting their flagship Business Class lounge) to Libreville, Gabon and finally Yaoundé, Cameroon. This upgrade was really worth it's price since I had to wait inside the plane for just over an hour while in Gabon.

Even if I was not expecting much from Ethiopian Airlines Business Class, I have to give credit where credit is due. The seat was comfortable with a tone of space, the food was delicious and well presented and finally the highlight of this Business Class experience, the cabin crew. Each flight attendant was extremely caring and friendly which made the flight even better.

On the negative side, my USB outlet did not work, the cabin was a little worn off, and the entertainment selection was not very large. That being said, I would still recommend it if you have a long flight and if you can get a last minute deal like I did.

Ethiopia moved up from 26 to 11 top airlines in the world. Anybody that knows anything about airlines knows Ethiopian Airlines is a giant not just in africa but in the world.

Probably the best airline in Africa, in my humble opinion. Their local Ethiopian food served in business class on flights out of Addis is absolutely top notch. On top of that their beautiful Ethiopian uniforms, a very unique touch most airlines do nothing about. Surprised by your "negative" experience.

Ethiopian airlines is for sure the Best airline in Africa which makes it the Pride of Ethiopia and the new spirit of may be the plane you were flying is a bit old as it is a triple seven but try Ethiopian flight again for sure the chance you will get an old plane is very rare unlike other African airlines. try their airbus and Boeing 787 they are very new. they are now converting their old planes to cargo and buying new airplanes.

Thanks for your review, I agree the best way to get Ethiopian business is via upgrade (even without the offer). However, as someone who has used Ethiopian business quite a few times now, I'll always prefer it to most African/European airlines like the crazy Brussels. In fact, I prefer Yaounde-Addis-Brussels with Ethiopian airlines than Yaounde-Brussels direct with Brussels airlines; and my preference is based on the service, comfort and cleanliness. While your review is good, I feel you may have just been unlucky with that 1 aircraft and that seat; try many more and you'll be happier with the nitty-gritties. And lo, it doesn't rain 10 months on 12 in Cameroon, it's usually May-Nov. Visit more often 🙏
