Hi. I am a 3rd year OT student and I struggle with imposter syndrome. I feel that I am a slower learner and I am more introverted, but most of my classmates are outgoing and faster learners... sometimes it discourages me. I want to do OT, it's hard too when I have anxiety and I just wish I believed in myself more.

With that said, I really loved how you said OTs help people live more meaningful lives... main reason I chose OT!

I'm in OT school right now, and am questioning this choice. I really appreciate the realistic words in your video and not only showing the good stuff about OT.

As a retired respiratory therapist, I know how some (many) patients are unmotivated to cooperate so that they can get better. It can be disheartening, but if you take the approach that you are offering a SERVICE, and whether or not they want to get the most from that service, is entirely up to the patient. Like the saying goes, "You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink."

Great video, man! OT is a job. Just like many others. I feel that a lot of people who go into the field romanticize the career, and then they’re faced with all of the things not taught in school.

"Most people think OTs are career counselor" That's so true! 🤣🤣🤣

Thank you for your insight! I'm considering OT as a future career but not very sure as to what sectors, but insightful never the less.
One thing to add, if you've worked on the mental health aspects of OT, i'd be very happy to see a video regarding it and your thoughts and possibly OT school!
Thanks a bunch!

This speaks to me on another level, I have been contemplating switching careers due to some of the cons, and I am still unsure of my next steps, I do not get the job satisfaction from this profession due to how it's perceived, and maybe I'm just not the best advocate for this profession, but I do know that it is amazing. Thanks for the video!

For me occupational therapy helped me more than the doctors. It’s too bad they don’t acknowledge this much

I would add as a con that there is not a very clear path to advancement in OT except for administration, but many other careers such as nursing allow for more advancement.

I have never understood how anyone would want to do this job. Years ago, I was going to receive training, and I could apply to the PTA assistant program or the nursing program. I picked nursing. Even 25 years ago, I couldn't see the appeal, and now that I have had to have PT and OT, I see the appeal even less, unless you are a sadist who likes laughing at people, which I doubt you are. Regardless, I will say that even a year later, I still hear my OT's voice when I'm doing something stupid that could result in a fall. She taught me a lot about how to safely to my ADL's after a stroke, so I'm very grateful.

Hey, I hope everything is well. just watching your video because im thinking on persuing OT, on your second con, you are talking about potential injury while holding or lifting a patient. There is a solution for that, and that is workout. by strengthening your body and becoming stronger it will carry on into your career. and avoid injury.

Part of me is regretting my Decision of becoming a Cota. I graduated moved and got my first Job at a hand therapy clinic. They said they would train me and shortly after hired a new OT and fired me for "Not knowing enough" . My confidence is shaken. Im not sure if it was my schooling or what I just feel like i cant do this. "Vent over"

I’m an RN who suggested OT to my daughter. She has her interview in 2 weeks. I wish I would have done OT! Clinic setting seems better than hospital to me.
