I've recently though about wanting to become an occupational therapist (It's been about 7-ish months.) And I just love the idea of helping others and making a positive impact on someone else's life. For me personally, I'm the kind of person who wants to be known for doing good to others and I guess just want to think of myself as "useful" in any way I can. Having a job that not only helps people, but also pays enough to be able to support me financially is a win-win in my book. I'm aware I don't FULLY understand everything about being an OT or an OTA, but that's the whole point of learning I suppose.

I just started school for this field. I feel right choosing this path. This is my chance to help others somehow.

I am a home health care occupational therapist. I am very frustrated by my employer. My employer says that bathing is an activity of daily living and if a patient requests a bath I must bathe them. I maintain that occupational therapy is a teaching profession and not a service providing profession and that if something happens to the patient while I am bathing them I would be liable for working outside the parameters of my licensure. My employer says I must do the job as told or I will be terminated. I would like to find a different job, but times are tight.

I forget everything after a physiotherapist pushed on my head. Been 9 months. Been in the hospital like 18 times and have severe head pain. I can’t even see properly.

What you just said is everything what a physiotherapist does ! I'm still not understanding the concept of occupationional therapy as the name suggests OT's are more inclined in giving, teaching, training patients with alternative methods to work in their occupation due to their disability etc...They do see alot of neuro related cases among others.Someone explain me if I'm wrong or partly correct

Occupational therapy for a TBI? I suffered a serious TBI and they sent me to OT but it seemed a bit silly and very basic. Counting money, identifying pictures, words and memory the end of the day, you ether get better or you dont.

O/T's in England are termed Occupational Terrorists as thier primary job is too report you to te Driving standards agency to deny you your licence. I learnt the hardway. I had been taking the same meds for 20 years, and driving without any incident or accident for 20 years. As soon as I got reffered to an O/T she reported after I had told her on several occasions that I was able to drive and for the past 20 years had done so without any issues to the DVLA and they took my licence aways from me! I had to go to court where at least the judge agreed with me and rebuked the pedantic O/T! DO not get involved with an O/T. They are like the seceret police.

Not really a worth it career to get into. If you're working in a rehab facility, it's all about profits and productivity over actual patient care. Not worth it. You will get burned out.
