Use embroidery thread. Reinforce from inside if you care to. I'm going to. LOVE this tip. Was going to have to buy a belt.

You have to stich the inside together for reinforcement. Last thing you want is to sit down in your favorite prefect fitting jeans and feel the waist POP. 😳😱😣

Lol, don't use regular thread. Im getting embroidery thread right now. I did eventually make it work, but it was not worth the headache with regular thread.

We call it Jacob's ladder stitch. It's quick and holds it well. I use regular thread but I think embroidery thread would hold better. Depends where the tear is.

Great fix for pants that don't have a very thick waistband. 😊 Just an fyi—There are certain jeans (think rugged Levi's) where the waistband isn't flexible enough to pull together neatly plus the "lump" on the inside may feel irritating.

do you recommend a particular height-to-width ratio for the dart? eyeballing it, this looks like it's maybe 2 1/2 times as "deep" as it is wide.
