People will only care till the topic is not trending anymore and every month or year it's a different issue. It's like the government is keeping us entertain and distracted by all of these social media shenanigans. Y'all don't even realize that.

She is right. Many people resort to liking or commenting and think that's enough.

But the thing is, voting doesn't change anything when both parties are corrupt, beholden to elites, have military stock, engage in illegal wars, etc.

Not voting for a President or voting for one who isn't in one of the two main parties doesn't mean you're not voting for smaller level politicians who aren't as likely to be corrupt.

One person can create a change reaction with a small action. Posting about something as a form of “activism” IS useless unless you’re doing something about it. Spreading awareness AND even putting some amount of action into that topic is enough. Encouraging others to do the same is even better.

One could have just as easily told Martin Luther King Jr. that a word is just a word, and that what he is engaged in is all talk and no action, yet the I have a dream speech is one of the most memorable, and was crucial in sparking relevant social change in America. Social Media opens wider audiences, allows us to reach out to politicians, and stimulate social change. As for saying that it is powerless, research the Egyptian Revolution of 2011 and the 6 April youth movement, and then say that social media was not crucial in instigating and escalating the events.

no no no no no. we need to start small before real change. DO NOT DISCOURAGE PEOPLE FROM taking small steps in the right direction. awareness is the step before activism. spreading the truth is half the battle.

I think I actually hate the speaker for this. Also, this is a pretty bad take. I’m wondering how this content was even approved? This isn’t the usua intelligent TED talk standards and content…
